We have a new family that just moved in on Friday. I was outside with my children blowing bubbles again when I saw them putting out their trash and recycling. I had to go over to introduce myself and welcome them to Texas and the area. I also wanted to let them know that the empty boxes that they were placing on the curb wouldn't get picked up. If it is not in the container it's not touched. She thanked me for the info then stated how windy it is here (I live just north of Ft Worth) and it was getting warm. I blinked several times and told her that the wind would stop at the beginning of June and it would be getting hotter. In July/August it would be close to 100 degrees. She stared and blinked with disbelief. She told me that it gets hot in Chicago but not that hot for so long.

I don't think she will be outside much this summer. Maybe next summer her two DS's will want to play.

Hey Dan, Do you know anyone that just moved to our area? You seem to know just about everyone.LOL

Happy Thoughts to all

Maybe they'll love it here! I spent my 1st 23 years in Illinois and have been here almost another 23. I can't believe that I endured the cold for all those years! To me the hardest time of year early on was mid-September to mid-October in the really hot years...you expect 65 degrees and get 95 degrees. You just have to tell yourself that fall will come...of course, it will be almost Christmas time, but it will come!

Oh yeah, and they'll love it at tax time in 2006 when they realize that there is no state income tax to pay!

One more thing...please clue them in to fire ants before someone gets stung...as I recall, the ants in Illinois were harmless.

That's one thing about Florida that I'm not sure everyone realizes...just how HOT and MUGGY it is. Sometimes the humidity alone is unbearable!

Thanks about the fire ants. I didn't even think about that. She told me that they were going to register her oldest DS (1st grade) this morning. The school was shocked that she would do that so close to the end of the year. We have three weeks left. Our last day is the 27th. One of the DD is having eye surgery that morning so she will miss the last day.

She told me that they brought their sled with them to use. I had to laugh and told her that it snowed here for one day until noon and the snow melted by 5:30pm. She just laughed. Then she asked what was she going to do with ALL of their winter coats?

Happy Thoughts to all

Nope, do noow anyone who moved from here to there. I do recall being there in Dallas in July of 2000. It was HOT!!! :sunny: But it sure gets hot here too, and humid. Not as long though.

Dan isn't it true there are two seasons in Chicago: Winter, and August?;)

Mt2 you are their new best friend. You were nice to tell them about the boxes:D

A few years ago, my wife and I had dreams and aspirations of moving to Florida...that is until we went to WDW June of 2002. OH MY GOSH!!! We can kick up some humidity here in the Mississippi river valley, but nothing like that. It was like being in a steam room on the surface of the sun. We now have dreams and aspirations of being Snow Birds someday.

Good Lord how did Texas get that bill passed. In WI we are taxed to death. I live in a 100 year old house and my property taxes are over $2500, and person income tax was over $5,000 this year.

Sorry, this is suppose to be about Texas, I did hear though the school systems are ho hum, I don't know about that, but I heard it from a teacher at my school who used to live there.

state income tax in texas is that third rail that no one wants to touch. former speaker of the house the late bob bullock pretty much made sure that no one would even broach the subject in our lifetimes, thank god.

they are about to raise the sales tax .75 cents to fund education.

only been to chicago once in 2002, it was pretty warm at the beginning of august, and the humidity off the lake was higher than n. tex. but the humidity around the lakes up there in the summer is pretty awful until you get to the u.p. but it was neat to see that part of the country, just don't make me go there in february.
