last went in 2011, told the kids we are going August 2016, but today booked for August 2015,we have always flown direct before, but the savings on indirect cover our flights from Guernsey, and all our park tickets.

If anyone has flown with Air Canada via Montreal fom Heathrow perhaps they could answer

Do our bags go straight through, ie say goodbye to them at Heathrow, see them in Orlando

Do we need a Visa to travel through Canada

What's the procedure on leaving the plane at Montreal.

Many thanks

Dave, kids don't know we have booked.

OK, I haven't done it but have been researching this myself as we are considering indirect via Toronto next Easter.

My understanding is you clear US immigration in Canada, you will need the ESTA as usual but no visa needed (unless, of course, you require a visa for US immigration purposes). Your bags should be checked all the way through and I believe you just have to identify them at the immigration desk.

Not sure how Monteal airport works butI found this handy guide http://www.admtl.com/en/guide

and it gives this info about your luggage:

If your flight originated outside Canada or the United States and you need to take a connecting flight to a U.S. destination, there are two possible options:
  • If your airline offers the option of automatically transferring your luggage and you have a boarding pass for your connecting flight, you will be asked to proceed via a connecting flights corridor, avoiding Canadian customs. You will, however, have to go through U.S. customs. Your checked luggage will be transferred automatically by the luggage-handling system. Note, however, that U.S. customs officers are authorized to recall your luggage, if necessary, for manual inspection. If the customs officers do not yet have the information on your luggage at hand, you will be asked to proceed to the waiting area.
  • If your airline does not offer the option of automatically transferring your luggage, you must pick it up yourself from the carousel, then follow the normal procedures for international arrivals, then for U.S. departures.

Thanks ,would we clear immigration in Orlando, or would that be sorted at Montreal.

The luggage thing is new, brilliant and makes connecting through Canada now better than connecting through a US airport (if you have checked baggage that is).

Wilma - YYZ is a fab connection airport. Last time I flew threw there, I was at my new gate within 20 minutes of the wheels hitting the ground. It's also a modern, clean, pleasant airport with free WiFi and plenty of affordable places to eat. I wouldn't hesitate to connect there. We even did an overnight connection once, which was brilliant - arrived, got a good night's sleep, and landed in Orlando not long after 10am ready to go!

Kath, thank you so much for the additional info. We are booking flights tonight and it is looking as though Air Canada will get our business. By far, the best flight/connection and arrival times.
