We just got a 9 week old Papillon puppy. He is so cute. He is white with a black face and black years and a few black spots on his back. We named him Mickey. I would post a pictue, but I'm not sure how.

We are also trying to litter train him. Does anyone have any experience with litter training dogs? If so I could use some advise.

Congratulations! I have never litter trained a puppy, so no help there.

Ok, I think i figured out how to post a picture. The pictue isn't very good, it was taken with a cheap digital camera and his face is all black so it doesn't show up very well. When I get my other pictues back I'll post one of those.

My MIL's poodle uses the cat box!! :lmao: :lmao: The first time I saw him use it I was like WTH dogs don't use a litter box. She just laugh at me. I then asked how she trained him to do that. She said she didn't the cats did!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

DH and I have a 10 week old taco terrier (half toy fox terrier and half chihuahua) that weighs 2.5 lbs. right now. We are in the process of litter box training her and she already poops consistently. Peeing is another matter and we are using piddle pads right now. I purchased Purina's SecondNature system and the litter is nothing like kitty litter, but works. DH and I are gone through the day and Lucy seems very content in her pen that consists of her crate for sleeping and the potty area at the other end. Lets keep in touch since we are raisingour toy breed puppies.

oh my gosh! That is my dream dog! Congrats! I can't wait to see a picture!

why litter train?? :confused3

Why not? If you have facilities available for your pet that is home all day by itself, it makes it MUCH more comfortable for them to relieve themselves. In the winter, since they are small they won't have to go out in the freezing temps of Iowa.

I would love to see a pic of your puppy! My parents had a chihuahua that everyone thought was a fox terrier - he must be adorable!!

Little Lucy is the love of our life now that we are empty-nesters and we have waited for her for a long time. She will grow to about 7 pounds as an adult and looks more like a toy fox than a chi. I will post a pic when I get a good one.

Spunky is 5 1/2 pounds - he will be 14 years old in September, and despite losing all his teeth and going gray, my sister (who inherited him when my parents passed) says he still carries on like a puppy! I love that small dogs live such a long time - you have so many happy years ahead!! :dogdance:

We have a long hair chihuahua that people mistake for a papillon. She's also named Lucy (like the poster above). I would love to get her litter trained. She uses potty pads right now.

Pictures!!! We need pictures of all these furbabies!!!

NeedADisneyFix - How did you go about training your dog? Right now ours will only go in his litter box when he is in his crate. If we have him out of the crate he pees on the floor. I think we just have to start watching for the signs and get him to the crate a little sooner. I don't think that is too bad since he is only 9 weeks old and we only have had him for 2 days.

We didn't litter train, but we did crate train. The key is to keep the dog in the crate the majority of the time. When they are out of the crate you need to watch them every second.

Cleaning up after a Great Dane isn't a lot of fun.

Congrats on your new addition!

I've had dogs my whole life and didn't know you could litter train. Live and Learn!

I do this already and have caught him in the act all put 1 time. I read some where that when you catch them you shouldn't yell and startle them or they will start hiding from you when they have to go. When I catch him I have been taking him to his box and telling him to go potty. Then I make him stay in his crate for a least five minutes. When we do see him go in his box we praise him and then give him his treats. Am I going about it the right way? This is our first dog, we are used to cats and they train themselves.
