We had our first 911 experience last night!

DD6 coerced DD4 into calling 911 (on DH's watch I might add)!! They called back but DH never answers the phone. So they sent the police to the house. DDs always run to the door when the doorbell rings and DH said they stop short when they saw who it was. DH apologized and explained that they must have called, the officer was really nice and said it happened all the time. After he left DH gave the girls a stern lecture about the importance of 911 and not calling it unless it was an emergancy. DD6 said she just wanted to know if someone would really come to the house if they called.

I missed the whole thing!!

This happened to us when my oldest was about 2 or 3 years old. No one dared her, she just took it upon herself to dial them up. The dispatcher tried to call back but my daughter was apparently still playing with the phone. The cop treated it like a hostage situation - standing flush against the wall, darting his head and peeking through the sidelight - hand on his pistol.

My DS used the speed dial when he was about 3. I heard him talking and went to investigate. I took the phone from him and almost fainted when I found out he was talking to a cop. They were about to send a car but I assured them all was well.

My kids haven't done this - YET. I'm always expecting them to call after we've punished them or something.

When I was little, about 8, I called a Children's Home (foster home/orphanage) type place and asked them to come take my brother because he was mean and I didn't want him anymore. I even left all the necessary info and they called back later to talk to my mom. I got in a little trouble for that.

I think dispatchers/LEO are much more tolerant of kid's being inquisitive then the ya-hoo's who dial 911 to find out how to cook their turkey, or the ever popular "I can't unlock my car because the battery is dead in my key-fob"

A few years ago I left my kids inside the house for about 10 min while I ran dinner into a friend of mine who just came home from having surgery. Well apparently my youngest noticed on the ADT pad 3 buttons that said Police/Fire/Ambulance so he wanted to know if he could call them that way instead of using the phone so he pushed them. I came home and was in the process of cooking dinner for us when I hear the sirens wailing down our street. That's nothing huge as we live a couple of blocks from the fire station and they come down our road all the time.

Imagine my shock when I see them running up my driveway in full gear with police and EMS people right behind them. I open the door with a and then I find out my son pushed the alarms on ADT's panel and when that happens they send out all the "big guns" just in case.

Yeah....after that we had multiple talks about why it was bad to push the pretty blue and red buttons!!!!!!!!!! Fortunately they were very nice about it and even let him see the truck and stuff but man....I was humiliated to say the least.

When my DD's were very young I worked from home for Kimberly Clark. I had the ringer off of my work phone so DD3 would not answer it if it rang. She dials 911 state police arrive.

I have a butter knife & a steak knife out on the floor trying to unlock my powder room door. DD5 & 3 also threw QTips out her bedroom window & they were all over the front walk.

I have to explain all of this to the officer. I told him DD3 will not clean up the walk. He leans over & tells her to get the walk cleaned. She looks up & says not until Katie gets home! I could not believe it

DS3 LOVES to play with the phone and I keep waiting for the day he accidentally calls 911. You'd think with his own cordless phone (which worked until he sent it swimming and it got fried so we gave it to him to play with), his own cellphone (it belonged to DH until the battery stopped working and the antenna broke off, so we donated it to DS) AND one of those pull-string phones that talks when you push the buttons, he'd have enough phones to play with. But noooo...he has to play with the real phone.

DD4 loves to play with the phone and we have to keep it out of her reach. When she was 2, she dialed 911 and of course, they send the police to the house. Luckily, the chief of police lived two houses down from us and knew us but a sheriff's deputy also came to the house. They went out on our back patio where we had the dog's kennel/cage. The dog wasn't in it because she was out in the yard playing with the kids. However, the older kids thought it was funny to put my nephew who was 6 at the time in the kennel. So when the cops go to the backyard, there is DN in the dog cage on his hands and knees barking. Talk about embarrassing!!!!!!!!

My oldest ds called 911 when he was about 8. When the police, or the military police, in this case showed up he couldn't believe they actually would show up. They had to come in to the house and look in all the closets "just in case". I forgot to mention I was 9 months pregnant at the time, 4 kids with the chicken pox and my washing machine was broken. I was running next door to a very helpful neighbor who was letting me wash a few loads in her washer since I couldn't get to the laundrymat. And on top of it? My ex was deployed and the car decided it wouldn't start. I could have screamed right then and there.

They were very nice about it, sat him down and explained the importance of not making false calls to 911. When asked why he did it he said he saw on tv people call 911 and wanted to make sure our 911 on our phone worked. Cause you know in case his mom got sick someone would come get his sisters because he didn't want to watch them or anything until his dad got home.

Wow, must be something with 3 and 4 year olds. When my son was 3 he was sent to his room for doing something or other (when they are 3 they always seem to be doing something or other). Well, he decided to go into our room and dial 911 instead. Luckily, they just called to make sure everything was okay and didn't actually send anybody out. When I asked him what on Earth possessed him to call 911, he said "You hurt my feelings!" Yeah, I had to explain that 911 was not for that kind of hurt.

When I was 6, one of the local bookstores would hand out cards with a phone number on it. You could dial the phone number and hear a kids' story. It was really cool! Well, except for the fact that three of the middle numbers were 911. One time I accidently pressed every number except for the 911 too lightly to register, so I called 911. I told them I was sorry and had dialed the wrong number and hung up really quick.
