Sorry to hear the first parade got rained out, but at least the fireworks were still a go! Those are really one of the highlights of attending the party, in my opinion. (Not that the Headless Horseman and the Haunted Mansion ghosts aren't super cool, as well.)

We had a storm day today which meant that (A) I had an unexpected day off and (B) my animals were a little silly. So I got some pictures to please a certain kitty's fan base.

Oscar is now almost 7 months old and got neutered two weeks ago. He's almost a big boy now!

Beautiful fur babies! Our cat's favorite toy is the dog's tail... which I believe has never stopped wagging since the day he was brought home from the shelter. He could also be happy because we named him Eeyore... who doesn't love a good Disney name?

Completely sick of winter is such an understatement. That last storm brought us three more feet of snow. Yesterday and today are beautiful days, but there's too much snow down to do much! So frustrated! I hear you, bring on spring indeed!

Thanks, they are cute aren't they? (Alert: Biased Mommy!) hehehe. They all get pretty silly on snow days so we try to come up with ways to keep them all entertained. Yarn works well!

"How I Took My Favourite Awful Fireworks Pictures"

I last left you hanging right before the fireworks. I have good news -- I'm here today to post about the fireworks.

I want to preface this post by saying that I am short. I'm 5'1" so you can imagine what happens to me in a crowd. My travel tripod is also short. The result is a low angle for the fireworks. The result of that... well you'll see.

For these fireworks I was not paying close attention to my camera. I wanted pictures, but not at the expense of missing the show myself. The result of that is actually very interesting. Fireworks photos that are less technically correct.

Ready? Here we go.

So what happens to short people with short tripods in a crowd?

Heads. Everywhere heads. A girl on the left, very very tall and wearing Mickey ears, kept pushing over to the left and looking back, so as to get out of my way. How nice! But when the fireworks actually started she kept pushing back to her right.

At first I was disappointed with the ears in every shot.

I was disappointed with the less than perfect technical side of the photos.

But I realized that these pictures show exactly how it is for me to watch the fireworks. Surrounded by fellow Disney lovers.

And soon I began to really love them.

And now, after a few months of looking through all the fireworks photos I've taken over the years...

I find these to be my favourite!

I have lots of reflections, the exposures are all over the place...

Maybe I'm just remembering how happy I was watching them.

And how I enjoyed the show more by not paying attention to the camera.

To me these really capture something about the essence of being in the crowd!

We didn't want to go far after the fireworks because the parade would be starting soon. Our fireworks location would offer no view though so we had to cross the road. We found a spot just down from eeyore04 and her family. I packed up my tripod, jacked up my ISO on my camera and got ready for the parade! There was sadly (but safely!) no horseman. Something tells me Kylend and Johnny ran to get popcorn, but I have nothing in my notes.

While we waited I tried to get this picture:

Which, given the way my photos were going that night, I had to keep!

Here comes the parade!

I enjoy this parade a lot. The music is so fun and upbeat.

Had to use a little flash for some of these. Not a really nice result.

We loved the parade. We laughed and danced the whole way through! The crowd was great that night. I guess when it rains all evening the only people left in the park are those with good humour!

We decided at this point that we would all part ways. Johnny and I still had not eaten dinner whereas Kylend and Michelle were ready to ride more rides. eeyore04 I believe was also off to ride more rides. Maybe if she ever gets back to her TR she'll tell you!

We had a commemorative group photo:

And parted ways with hugs and many promises to do this again some time.

Johnny and I ran to Cosmic Rays, the closest thing we could guarantee had something we liked. I think we both got chicken strips. We have this game where I can see how many times I can distract Johnny, make him look the other way, and toss my chicken pieces onto his plate. He never figures out what I'm doing until about three pieces in when he realizes his chicken strips are reproducing.

After our dinner we wanted to aid our digestion and what better way than with a spin on the Peoplemover?

After that... well my notes go blank. I do know that Johnny and I rode quite a few more rides and didn't leave the park until 1am.

We were exhausted and it was time for bed. The next day would be our last!

I grabbed a few pics on the way out.

We were on the bus and heading back in no time at all. On our way through the resort, I stopped to take two pictures I kept missing. The boneyard, which was always covered with kids (but not at 1am!)

And Prince Eric, who usually had a girl hanging off his arm:

We fell in bed, set the TV sleep timer and let Stacey lull us to sleep.

I just love your firework pictures. They are really perfect! Right before I leave in June I am going to have to pm you for a lesson. We are driving so I am going to take my tripod and give it a go and see if I can get different results.

Thanks! Yeah, that's why I like them too, there are lots of technically perfect fireworks pictures out there. These are mine! lol

I have a Canon Rebel T3i. It's the second from the bottom of the SLR scale, but it does all I ask of it and more. I also have an 18-200mm Tamron lens that I didn't take off the whole trip, that made all the difference. SLRs usually come with an 18-55 which isn't a bad lens to start with but as far as zoom goes it's very restrictive. Just something to be aware of, since most people don't realize that when buying an SLR. I personally like Canon because that's what I "grew up on" so to speak, but I can't fault Nikon, they make a great camera too. Those are the giants of course. I don't particularly like Sony (though I've come across some amazing photogs who can do anything with a Sony) and Pentax makes a wonderful little SLR (they don't advertise and cater to smaller stores). There are some good rebates out now on some Canon stuff so you might get a good deal actually. Also there are rebates out on Tamron lenses. I don't want to overwhelm you haha, I tend to do that with camera talk, but I'm more than happy to answer questions!

Definintely, we should get on Facebook chat sometime and I'll answer any questions and give any pointers! Long shutter is key, but you don't want to over expose (and you want lots to be in focus) so a smaller aperture is what you need too.
And thanks. We had such fun that night! I feel like it came through in the pictures.
