My cat died in November and all 3 of my boys (2 sons and a DH) wanted to get a dog. I posted about that here a couple of weeks ago. I'm not a dog person and do not know how to take care of them.

Anyway, so I've been looking at cats on the Humane Society webpage and my 6yo has been looking with me. So we went to the HS on Sunday to look. We looked at 5 cats and the 5th one was the most perfect cat.

She's the friendliest cat I've ever know (and I've had cats my whole life). She's loves to play with the kids, even the 3yo. She even slept with us last night. She loves to be petted and she came and sat on my lap for the first time a few minutes ago. And she was purring up a storm! All this after only 2 days of being here!

My old cat didn't really like the kids too much. Never played with them, would occasionally allow to be petted. And only occasionally sat on my lap. I loved her and I miss her, but our new cat is just so sweet and lovey dovey and loves to play like a puppy. I couldn't be more thrilled. The kids love her to peices!

It makes me wonder how she ever ended up at the humane society. Who could have given her up. I have to admit, I was hesitant to go to the HS. I figured there must be something wrong with them for people to give them up. I know there are legitimate reasons to give up pets, but I could never take my pet to a shelter. I would have to make sure any of pet of mine went to a great home. But I guess some people do. She's the perfect cat!

Her name is Sparkle, but I want to call her Sparx. Not from the DISser, but from a video game, which I assume where she got her name  The boys keep going between the two. Actually my 3yo was calling her Sprinkles today. :rotfl: So we'll see what ends up sticking. She's hard to photograph because she's been exploring and hasn't sat still.

Congratulations! I adopted two brothers last June and they just turned one on Valentine's Day. Can't imagine life without a cat!

Congrats Beth- she is really cute. My kids love that video game btw

Congrats on your new cat!! She's beautiful. :)

She's a cutie.

I wish we could find a cat that liked to play/superfriendly. Every cat I've ever known has been standoffish. We'd like to get dd's a pet but dogs make me nervous and cats never seemed like a good "playful" friend like our 4 y/o is wanting.

Aww, she's beautiful. Lucky cat finding such a great and loving home. :thumbsup2

One of my favorite cat poems.

Oh, what unhappy twist of fate
Has brought you homeless to my gate?
The gate where once another stood
To beg for shelter, warmth, and food
For from that day I ceased to be
The master of my destiny.

While he, with purr and velvet paw
Became within my house the law.
He scratched the furniture and shed
And claimed the middle of my bed.

He ruled in arrogance and pride
And broke my heart the day he died.
So if you really think, oh Cat,
I'd willingly relive all that
Because you come forlorn and thin
Well...don't just stand there...Come on in!

Congratulations on your new cat! She's a beauty!:thumbsup2 It's amazing how those little furballs can make life so much more fun!:cat:

Cute Beth! I've been trying to talk DH into getting another cat - we use to have 3 and we are down to one now :( I send him pictures from petfinders.com. Hehehe.

Amanda you should look at the Humane Society in Chesterfield. There are so many cute cats there. We saw 3 others that we really liked. I will probably go back in a month or two to look for another. We'll let this one get settled first. Although she's doing a great job of that already. You would think she's been living here for 5 years the way she's acclimated. :cloud9:

Virgo, that poem made me tear up a little. Thanks for sharing.

She is adorable. She looks a lot like my Cleo from my teenage years. Cleo would sleep in my room with me. When she was ready for me to get up (I had the door closed) she would stand on the headboard and jump on me to wake me up.

What a sweetie!

I've had half friendly half unfriendly cats all of my life but they all loved me so that's what counted! :thumbsup2

Two of my cats are from Humane Society and I wondered the same thing. Who would've gotten rid of them? I actually called one of the families to tell the woman who brought her in that I'll take good care of the baby. She cried and told me that she had so many cats she couldn't keep her. In a way I'm so glad she did, because my little girl LeeLee was like are rebirth of my late cat, Rambo.

Have a happy life with your new kitty!

OMG! She's a dead ringer for one of my childhood cats named Milky! (Hey, I wasn't too imaginative at 9.) What a beauty!

Aww, she's such a sweetie. :) How old is she? She still looks fairly young.
