So after that little singing episode, we were ready to eat! First off, came the cornbread and salad and cranberry sauce. We were given double of everything, one at each end. All the adults sat at one end and the kids at the other. This began to look like a who would eat the most challenge... and so we began.
The cornbread is sweet, much like Jiffy corn bread mix. Not complaining, just explaining...
The salad was super good. I could have ate a meal of just that... probably should have and saved myself the calories.. But I sort of have this belief that if I think it is great, chances are that it is nowhere near low calorie.
We had 4 little dishes of this cranberry stuff. Not my favorite stuff and I did not bother tasting this either. But I thought it odd that you got 4, so apparantly either no one really likes it or they figure you don't mind sharing this little container with another. We had 4 people who liked it and so they ate their very own serving.

On second thought, perhaps our server was just a psychic?
Next came our skillets... one on each end.
The sweet potatoes were like baked sweet potatoes, nothing on them so rather blah. Both skillets had some left. The seasonal vegetable was a green bean casserole. The green bean casserole was fresh green beans still with a bit of a crunch. Not like your usual mushy canned kind made even mushier. Some loved it, some didn't. Just the crunch that was the issue not the taste. The dressing and mashed potatoes and gravy were good. Some of our group were not dressing people so I would say the mashed potatoes were the all time favorite of the "vegetable" category.
The meats were really good. The smoked turkey was the first to be devoured... with the kids end even asking for some of ours before we got refills. The next suprisingly was the chicken. It was so tender and flavorful. Nothing was wrong with the ham, all was eaten in fact. But that was the list as far as best to good.
Seconds were asked for on ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and green bean casserole. Seconds also on milkshakes for all kids. Water was never asked to be refilled.
Now we were truly stuffed. The kids did manage to finish their first tray, some of ours, their refills, and a bit more of our gravy even. No one left the table even a bit hungry.
What to do next? Eat dessert of course! Our server brought out a whole pumpkin pie cut into 8 slices. It tasted fresh baked but who really knows.
Now I am not a huge fan on Whispering Canyon skillets. Don't flame me. I am not a big pork eater and I really don't like food touching... so there you have it. But we wanted a Thanksgiving meal that we did not have to hit the buffet line... because with all of us there would not be any time that all 8 would be at the table. So this was our next best thing to all-you-care-to-eat!
Up next will be
The Rose and Crown!
