Only joking!

The names chosen for the turkeys on the F Word (and I think the pigs the following year) were named after other celebrity chefs here in the UK - hence having the names beside the cooked birds.

There is also a UK version of Kitchen Nightmares - love this show :thumbsup2

Whenever that episode where they kill the turkeys comes on again, I change the channel. I saw it once and, as much as I enjoy Gordon, I can't watch it again (despite the fact that yes, I do indeed eat turkey ). It was amusing when Gordon was trying to convince his wife to keep one or two of them, though.

The one where ... I can't think of her name - the woman he has on, on the F Word, as a roving reporter type thing - the one where she goes to pick out the horse to slaughter skeeved me out, too.

I appreciate the intent behind them raising the turkeys - and lambs and pigs - in the yard, though, so the kids aren't just 'city kids who don't know where their food comes from' (his words; well, paraphrased). His kids are definitely a lot tougher than I am. :scared1::lmao:

Janet Street-Porter I find her very annoying :headache:

I get confused between her and the horse! :rotfl:

Most people in the UK do not killand eat their pets. Gordon Ramsey, however, was making a point that farm animals are meant to be eaten (he is very against vegetarianism), and they people should get less squeamish about how they are killed. He also wanted to teach his kids the circle of life, harsh but true.

I like most of his programmes, the F word being my least favorite, my best being Kitchen Nightmares!

We like our Gordon :thumbsup2 It was a great way to let the troops understand that food did not appear on a polytray without first being nurtured, reared then slaughtered :)

Kill it, cook it, eat it was a similarly good show :)

Ok, I'd wondered if it was just me who didn't care for her. I'm glad to see it's not just a British thing that I don't get. :lmao:

They were replaying one of the F Word episodes with his pigs this afternoon. He actually admitted he could see how someone could become vegetarian after watching some of the conditions animals are kept in. Quite a different statement for him.

My favorite show of his is Kitchen Nightmares, too. Is he still filming that series in the UK? I saw some new US ones last year, but I don't find them as entertaining for some reason.

Actually I have eaten my pets in Canada :) We had chickens when I was a kid and named them all. Of course, they were always destined for the supper table and I can clearly remember asking "who are we eating tonight?"

I'm another Gordon Ramsey fan....for some reason I always find watching him shout "you DONKEY!" at someone almost theraputic. Maybe because he's not yelling at me

True story.

My DH had to kill/eat his pet turkey when he was young. He grew up on a farm. His dad told him not to name the turkey or treat him like a pet and he refused to listen. To teach him a lesson, he had to do the deed himself. He said he laid Petey's head on the chopping block and his eyes stared up at him and he couldn't do it. He repeated that process several times before he was successful. He said he couldn't eat the turkey dinner that Thanksgiving...
...but the turkey sandwiches the next day tasted pretty good! :rotfl:
