halogen desk lamp!!!

Does he/she have a chance? I called a local guy who does wildlife rehab and left a message. Mo found him inside his egg outside. We noticed his beak was pecking out. There is a nest way at the top of our house so there is no way to put him back.

We made a little "nest" and put him under the desk lamp and he is hatching!!!! I thought he would die but Mo found him and I told her I would do my best so that is what I'm doing. He is almost out!!! What do we do next? I hope that guy calls me back soon!

He is half way out! He is acting very lively and wants out of that shell! We don't have a heating pad so we put him on the back of our computer monitor with a hand towel between his "nest" and the monitor. I used our laser thermometer and it is 82 degrees so that should be perfect for tonight.

Hopefully, he will make it through the night and we can get him to a rehabber tomorrow.

Anyone visiting our planet today will think that birds are the superior species here. :rotfl: I too "saved" a baby bird today. The wind must've blew his nest over and he fell out. I fixed the nest and put him back in. A while later the mother came back. :goodvibes I'm not sure what to tell you about the hatchling. I'm not sure you should have brought it in your house. But good luck with him!

Sorry I can't help you because I know nothing about raising orphaned baby birds.

I hope you can find the help you need to give this bird a chance.

Thank you for at least trying.

Beth, I would usually agree but the egg was on our driveway and would have been run over either by us or our neighbor as we share a portion of our driveway. We have a huge old victorian and they nested way at the top. There was no possible way to put him back in. We have a couple lower nests but they are sparrow nests.

There are a couple rehabs arond here that take in baby songbirds so I'm hoping someone will take him tomorrow.

I was hoping I could find some info to help you on our poultry boards but I can't find a thing about songbirds! I do know a bit about hatching & raising other types of birds, as I've had friends who've had great success with it. With chicks, you must keep them at 99.5 F for the first few days, then can drop the temp 1/2 degree per day until they feather out. Robins feather out and look full grown at 4 weeks. They do not eat by themselves like chicks but must be fed regurgitated food by their mother. Smashed earthworms will work in a pinch ewwwww Let us know how it's going!!

I just came to give an update. I woke up this morning to a fully hatched chirping bird with a wide open mouth wanting some food. We just got back from taking him to a wildlife rehabilitator and she seemed positive about how he would do. She took our name and number to keep us updated so I'll keep you all updated.

I'm glad that baby will get a chance to grow up.

Our neighbors cut down a row of short shrub type trees yesterday. It made me sad because the little birds always nest in there every year. Now their nests are all gone :sad2:

I wouldn't be able to do that. I'd at least have to wait until fall if I wanted to get rid of those trees.
