We chose the dark side - Carnival VS Disney

I have been on the Legend. It's been a few years, but I enjoyed it. We did the western out of Tampa. I've also been on the Spirit to AK and will be on the Miracle next year, both sister ships to the Legend. I liked the layout of the ships and I really like that the serenity area is aft and has a pool.
I was asking because the legend is going to be in Australia and New Zealand next year when it finishes its Alaska run. I also read the ship that is based in LA is doing a 2 week cruise from Los Angeles through Glacier Bay and back to Los Angeles That would be nice.

No, I did ask a second time and received no response at all that time. I presume they aren't going to do it for some reason, though I don't know why. I'm sorry! :(

Not gonna lie, I'm a bit disappointed.

I guess I'll have to post my thread here...

This board is front for Dreams unlimited which sells DCL and RCCL. I doubt they even like us discussing other cruise lines. Maybe as DCL raises prices and loses more loyal customers, and other cruise lines offer new ships at 1/3 the cost they will start selling other cruise lines.

This makes sense to me and I totally understand them not wanting to create a new thread.

In other news, did you hear Carnival is launching 2 more new ships in 2020 and 2022? They're going to be 180,000 ton vessels with a max guest capacity of 5200 and will be the first ever cruise ships to run on natural gas. It was announced Tuesday. My daughter is so excited, she graduates in 2020 and wants that ship for her graduation cruise, doesn't care where it's sailing!

I really need to start saving money:

2018- new CCL Horizon
2019- new RCCL or NCL ship
2020- new CCL ship
2021- new DCL ship
2022- new CCL ship
2023- new DCL ship

I may need to start driving for Uber part time!!

That is a lot of new ships. I wonder if some old ships will "retire"?

That would explain it perfectly.

With Carnival stepping up its game with brand new ships and already selling similar itineraries for about 40% less than DCL, it might happen at some point.

We can take 2-3 Carnival cruises for the price of one Disney cruise -- depending on the itineraries. If you want to see more places for less money and not worry about loyalty to a certain line, that's the only way to do it.

I agree.

I'm super interested in Bermuda and Alaska...

DCL doesn't do Bermuda (that I know of), and I'm not going to pay 5000-8000$ for an Alaska cruise with DCL when I can have it for 1500-2000$ on another cruise line.

Did you see Carnival has a 14 day Alaska cruise out of Long Beach in September, 2017!!!

Wow...so many new ships.....I want to try them all......I guess I'll be eating pasta and tuna for the next 5 years so I can afford all these cruises...LOL

At least you'll be getting some protein, I'm going back to my college days and living on Ramen!!

A 99 cent box of pancake mix goes a long way. ;)
I may have to try this myself. Lol.

So count me on the Jumping Ship bandwagon. I had originally booked NCL in Europe for this past summer but cancelled after all of the negative and poorly executed changes. They implemented a room service fee and then banned people from taking food from the buffet. That was later rescinded, but I was spooked.

I have been eying RCCL and I perchance won a free cruise for one of the Harmony previews. It's only 2 days, and we have to buy airfare, which is pretty cheap, but the cruise, tips, and ground transfers are covered! What a way to try out a new cruise line!

I will let you know if there are any other bells and whistles after my Bermuda cruise on NCL in October. I wrote letters to two different departments about the water issue and other fees and the outrageous prices they are charging for cases of water onboard -- back in July -- and to date neither department has had the courtesy to respond. Not a great start for customer service :sad2:

Dreams Unlimited, which owns this board, sells RCCL so that is why they have an RCCL board. I wouldn't look forward to having a board dedicated to cruise lines they aren't affiliated with, as it would be against their business interests.
