Perhaps you remember that these can get a bit long. You might want to get a snack first...

There is a better way to do this, but I don't know it... link to part two in case you missed it

We came, we saw, we conquered the trip part three:
The journey begins.

I am having a little trouble with tense. I find myself switching between past and present tense a bit. I am sure you will all forgive me. I am trying to keep this as chronological as possible. That is really for my own benefit, I hope you don’t mind.

So the cast again
Me
Steve my Husband and fellow Disney fan.
Ryan, 17- Also likes Disney.
Max- 9- Looks very much like Harry Potter. Loves Disney.
Sophia-6 Loves all things Disney. I think Minnie Mouse might be her all time favorite.

Recap: My dear thoughtful son has left my camera in a friends car. This is discovered ‘round about 3 a.m. and for some reason I refrain from killing him. Must have been the lack of sleep, I wasn’t thinking straight. We went to bed hours later than I had thought we would. There are three suitcases and two rubbermaid (one huge) tins to fit into the car.

At 8 p.m. when I was putting Max and Sophia to sleep I had no idea how long it would take me to pack. They went to bed like angels. We stayed up past 3. Sleep is for wussies.

Someone is climbing over me. They seem to have four arms and four legs and two heads. Wait, it is both of them. What time is it? 7:30. Four hours of sort of sleep, sure that should be enough, let’s get going! I decide, for the sake of self preservation, to not tell my husband he needs to get up. I think it, I just don’t say it out loud. Good thing he has learned to read my mind. I send the kids to wake up big brother and head down stairs. Sophia is right on my heels. It seems she has packed a suitcase too. Great, no problem, I am sure we can fit that in too. Steve gets up of his own accord. Possibly out of fear of what his daughter will decide she needs to bring next. Or he could just be afraid of me.

Our car is not an SUV. It is a Camery. We love it. It is always good to us. It has a cavernous trunk. When we bought the car the salesman showed us how big the trunk was. Dear husband, always a laugh a minute, said “You could fit a body in there, heck you could fit three.” Salesman got a funny look on his face. Any how, I pride myself in my ability to pack this trunk. I have never not been able to fit everything in. Until now. I can’t make it work. I can almost do it, but not quite. I think the road trip might go better if we can shut the trunk. Steve rescues me and fits it all in (on his first try too, show off).

Mean while Ryan is putting his cell phone to use. Yes we are at home and it is a local call, but it would not be cool to use one of those old fashioned things. The camera is safe and sound, we can pick it up “on our way” out of town. So we pile in the car and head to Ryan’s friend’s house. He lives on the top of a mountain. Well maybe not a mountain, but it feels like we are driving that far. 45 minutes round trip from the freeway and we have the camera. Yeah. I am a photo addict and was worried about having to drag my good camera around the parks. The digital is much better suited to theme park use.

We stop at Krispy Kreme for our traditional road trip food and hit the freeway. We are off, finally. And it is only 10:30. The plan was to leave by 7 a.m. and I prepaid our room via Priceline. So Mobile Alabama it will be.

Nothing much to say about the road. Zero traffic, thank goodness. We listened to the first 8 or 9 hours of a Harry Potter book on tape. Books on tape are like magic, they make the time just melt away. Did we eat anything besides doughnuts today? Not yet, I realize just as we are about to enter the ‘swamp’ part of the trip. I have never made this drive before, but I think I remember some posts on the DIS about a long stretch with no services. I force my husband to get off at the next off ramp. We find a McD’s. That will feed the kids, DH and I have trail mix. Food is for wussies. Good thing we stopped when we did. I think we went for a pretty long while there with no food exits.

We make it to the Hotel before dark. It is about 6 or 7 pm. Had we left on time this might have been too soon to stop. As things worked out it was perfect. The room was $41 tax and all via Priceline. It is pretty nice. We only need to bring in one bag (remember we are road trip veterans). I shower and clean up the kids and we all go to bed. I thought it would be hard to sleep, what with WDW being so close and all (just 7 or 8 hours away!) but I slept like a baby. Maybe it was the whole four hours sleep the night before thing. Yep, I admit it. I do sleep. I will revise my ‘sleep is for wussies’ statement. Sleeping every night is for wussies.

I am not sure if the term wussie is real, or a made up word from my childhood. I know I have heard other people use the word. So it is at least understood by some.

Up next, part four. Are we there yet?

I have had enough of this blow by blow stuff- we are cutting to the chase. Our first park day was Magic Kingdom. That is where our tour will pick up in part four, well we'll make it into the park anyhow...

What hotel was it? We're driving to Florida from Garland TX in December.
