We Blinked! (Long!)

Actually their property taxes look pretty good to me. About 1/3 of what ours are. for the same size house.

2. Why don't they extend the monorail to other resorts (DVC or not)?

I'll take a shot at this one.

The old rumor is that it originally cost $10 million per mile to build the monorail track back in the 70s.

I had previously uncovered information related to a monorail project in Las Vegas that attached a current cost (article is a 2-3 years old now) of $25 million per mile to that project.

If that's accurate, care to guess how many busses they can put into service for the cost of extenting the monorail line? I'm sure that maintenance costs are also high for the monorail track and cars, which negates that as being a positive selling point.

There are also logistical concerns with the monorail. When a car breaks-down, the entire line goes down for obvious reasons. Wanna be stuck at Epcot after closing with limited bus service and no monorail?

We purchased in two years ago, and I just want to echo what many on this board are saying. You need to decide what works for you but assuming that the kids will "outgrow" Disney is not always a good thing. When I was growing up we went every year for 10 years (just like your plan) and then we started goin other places because my parents assumed Disney was just for kids. Keep in mind this was in the early 80s so EPCOT had just opened and the only other thing to do there was MK, but I was never able to have as much fun on any of our later trips as I did to those at Disney. When we got married, we honeymooned at Disney, and stayed at WL the first week it was open. Best vacation I ever had! We have gone back every few years, and now have children of our own and are also DVC members now. Moral of the story is, if you love Disney, believe me your kids will pick up that love and your 10 year timeframe will be blown out of the water. Plus trading to other locations with a property like Disney is immensely easier than with others. Finally, if you pull the increase in hotel rates over the last 20 years, it is much closer to 10% a year than 5%. That's one of the reasons timeshares are so popular.
