We been UPGRADED

I got a phone call today informing us we have been UPGRADED from an oceanview to a verandah.
Our new cabin is 7138. The upgrade fairy has been good.
We went from cat 8 to 5. We leave on the Wonder 11/20.

Congrats on the Upgrade, I'd like to get a call like that, would our TA get the call and call us or would Disney call, if we did get one? I'm planning on trying at the dock anyway if we haven't been upgraded.

That's not only a cat 5, it's a nearly double size cat 5 with a very large verandah (it's a handicap room). Only download is that it's about as far aft as you can possibly go without a life preserver.

It will be nice having extra room, but we will be spoiled with view, our next cruise won't be the same unless lighting strikes again. We will have to get use to the walk.

You'll enjoy it either way. We had a cat 4 on our last (also our first) cruise last month and actually decided to go with connecting 8's for our cruise next year.

I would say that is a positive! I we love deck 7 aft...quiet and close to the "secret" deck 7.

On our last cruise we got an upgrade and I didn't know anything about it until we got our docs and I saw the room number. We went from a 11 to a 9 that time. Of course that just made me book a 9 for this cruise. Only 1 more month!!!!!

Sometimes - at random - Disney will upgrade you for free for one reason or another. There has been much discussion on this board about it and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to who gets an upgrade or when.

Others inquire about buying an upgrade at the port. If rooms are available, it is typically cheaper to buy the upgrade at the port, versus booking the better room on the front end.

As far as I can tell, who you booked through makes no difference. It seems to be very random .... and less likely if you are cruising during peak season and when the ships are full or near full.
