We Be Trippin': The Great DIS-nee Road Trip

Due to lack of participation, it appears this trip has come to a stand still. I know there are those of us that probably aren't interested in this anymore. Out of respect for others though, it would be nice to get this bus back on the road again.

Since the price of diesel is so outrageous, I had to resort to other options. I had a hard time finding anyone to help out. I was lucky enough to find a couple of people that were willing to try to give the old bus a push to try to get us moving.

I'll just go ahead and hand it off then. I just got home and have had some 13 hour work days--I didn't mean to cause a standstill, just couldn't get to it.

So for anyone still reading, looks like we're on the road to Texas!

Missy, don't take what I posted the wrong way. I was being more sarcastic then anything. I was actully surprised to see that you replied so quick. I for one have no room to complain about taking a long time posting during the trip. I know EVERYONE is extremely busy and preoccupied with more important matters. Don't feel the need to pass off yet just because of me. Please take your time and finish. You have done a great job so far! Don't forget, I didn't get the name MADBRAD (  :furious: :furious: :furious:   )for nothing!!!!

No problem at all! I was just determined not to drag it out when it came to me, and look! I ended up doing it anyway! :sad2:

For the sake of speeding things up for anyone still following along, I think we should just go on to the next stop! :goodvibes

Hey Gang!

It’s time to hop on the bus, and travel across the Red River to TEXAS! :welcome:

Before we get to my neck of the woods, let’s make a short stop in the Dallas Fort Worth Area. This area is so rich in things to do, that I thought a day or two of independent exploration would be in order.

Since this is not my normal stomping grounds, I’m mainly going to give you some links to go explore on your own. :car:

This will be a short stop, and what you do is up to you. If you just want to kick back and relax in the bus – that’ll work too! :thumbsup2

Here we are in Grapevine, Texas…centrally located to many of the enjoyable things to investigate in the DFW metroplex area.

For amusement park devotees:

700px-Six_Flags_of_Texas.jpg

If you didn’t already know it, Six Flags amusement park was first born in Texas. The name comes from the fact that six different flags really did fly over Texas. Here’s the info about it on Wikipedia:

Six Flags, Inc (commonly Six Flags) is one of the world's largest chains of amusement parks and theme parks, based on quantity of properties. The company maintains 21 properties located throughout North America, including theme parks, water parks and family entertainment centers. In 2007, Six Flags properties hosted approximately 24.9 million guests, making it the fourth-most popular theme park company in the world. The company's headquarters are located in Texas and took its name from its first property, Six Flags Over Texas, and the six flags that have flown over the state of Texas during its history, namely those of Spain, France, Mexico, The Republic of Texas, The Confederate States of America, and the United States of America.

I’m afraid I’ve become a bit of a snob – if it ain’t Disney, I generally don’t go! Seriously, it’s been years since I visited Six Flags, but that’s as much about that it closes through the coolest months of the year!

I do know there are some neat Roller Coasters, and that some of you are roller coaster aficionados! Here is one:

So there you go - a variety of things to do for the next couple of days.

And like I said, hanging around the bus is always an option! I'll make sure a big ol' bbq feast is delivered to keep you from starving!

And of course, in appreciation of our friend from Louisiana, plenty of sweet tea!

Enjoy, and look for the next leg of the trip in a couple of days...

Ok, so it's not technically the middle, but it's as close as we'll get on this trip, so we'll go with it!

I'm so excited everyone has finally come!

This is Oklahoma!
http://www.travelok.com/fun_center/video.asp

Yep, where the winds come sweeping down the plains. And up the plains. And well, just about every which way you would imagine wind could blow!
(Shh! :ssst: We won't mention the funnel shaped winds! ;) )

Anyway, things tend to move a little slower here! There's not a whole lot to see while driving through. But if you look past what you don't see, you just might be surprised at what you find! This part of the trip is really more about the people you're with, the people you meet along the way, and the little things that are just about everywhere!

Tooth!! I've thoroughly enjoyed your leg of the Road Trip, and I'm 'sorta bummed it got cut short! Thanks for our tour of Okie territory! I'm totally digging the trek across Route 66! :thumbsup2

So kick your shoes off, crank up the radio and enjoy the open road!

Oh, and a word about the radio. At any given time, you'll most likely hear something like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSVBADpK9fs

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Shelly West, the female artist pictured on the album cover [within this youtube link posted by tothesea], looks a bit like our very own Marshay?!? (Hey, Marshay: Is there something you want to tell us? ;) )

It's not that we don't have a variety of radio stations. We do. Classic Country. Hot New Country. Country Hits of Yesterday and Today. Just to name a few. :confused3

So enjoy the tunes and enjoy the views!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Finally pulling into Norman, you guys can sleep good tonight! We've booked the entire Whispering Pines B & B!

bbwhisperingpines.jpg

Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast is located on 20 acres of beautiful trees and rolling pasture. Quiet and serene, this peaceful country inn is only ten minutes from the University of Oklahoma campus and Lake Thunderbird State Park. The two-story Victorian was built new in 1994, but has the look and feel of a true 1900's mansion complete with a wrap around porch, gazebo and a grand staircase.

Here are a few of the rooms you can choose from...

There's also a full service restaurant that serves fine dining French continental:

Now, I have to say that DISgeeks gets first choice of rooms to make up for a previous incident that was talked about...but which I just can't remember happening for some reason! :confused3 All I can say, is at least I still know my last name!

Ooooh! Ahhhh! And, thank you for that act of kindness, tothesea. (The red room looks quite nice. I think I'll take first dibs...)

Although I am wondering what you're insinuating with that last comment... :rolleyes1 ("Well, I NEVER..." ;) )

Most excellent, Cat! (Your cat-toons never disappoint!)

I'm totally looking forward to your upcoming safari and the remainder of our Texas tour! ::yes::

And, you're right, tothesea! (The Big Blue Whale of Catoosa does look awfully friendly!) Thanks for including him as a pit-stop along the way. I'm having a lot of fun checking out the quirky roadside attractions :teeth:, and the scenery is absolutely lovely. What a pleasant drive! :car:

This has been some fun reading. I have been reading along and just never posted......thought I would do so now to say thanks for taking the time to share - this has been fun!!

Welcome, bytheblood! :wave2: Thanks for introducing yourself!

It's always nice to know that folks are enjoying our little cross-country journey!

Oh, nooooooo! :guilty:

Madbrad: I'm hoping you're wrong about the lack of interest. True, I'm sure that traffic has slowed a bit since the start of our Road Trip, but I'm willing to wager that it's partly due to the busyness that comes with Summer travel and outdoor activities -- unlike Winter, when people are more likely to hunker down indoors and "hibernate" in front of their computers... :confused3

Case in point: The DISgeeks family just returned from our family vacation with friends in Orlando, which (of course!) included a visit to the World! :cloud9: I'm just now playing catch-up on my favorite threads!

Actually, I'm also feeling a bit guilty that I ran out of time to send postcards to my DISboard friends. 'Guess this "virtual" sentiment will have to do:

Chillin' in the Toy Story Mania queue. Wish you were here!

That is so cool you got to go! Details, please!

We were in Ft Worth last month and I have to say... it's a wonderful city to just walk around and explore. In fact, it is now up there with Portland, OR as one of my favorite cities in the U.S.

My son and I went to Six Flags and rode the Titan. It definitely exerts some pretty decent Gs on you! It's a lot of fun.

Hey FTC! Yes, Ft Worth is nice - and I'm long overdue for a visit. I'm glad you had such a nice time!

So were you just visiting down here? I am sure ready to come up for a visit to your area. I had such a good time when I was in Seattle for training years ago!

Oh that pizza is making me really hungry!!! Well Oklahoma looked beautiful, and now I am enjoying Texas too, it looks like there is lots to do. I am liking the Texas BBQ food too..according to my viewing of the Travel channel and Food Network this seems to be a big hit in Texas, I can't wait to taste it someday (non-virtually) .
