We Be Trippin': The Great DIS-nee Road Trip

We were in Ft Worth last month and I have to say... it's a wonderful city to just walk around and explore. In fact, it is now up there with Portland, OR as one of my favorite cities in the U.S.

My son and I went to Six Flags and rode the Titan. It definitely exerts some pretty decent Gs on you! It's a lot of fun.

I'm glad to hear you and your son had a great time at that Six Flags FTC! Way back in high school, I went every summer with friends and we always had so much fun.

Now though, it's like with you Cat--I'd SO much rather go to Disney! But it is good I guess to have something else so close.

For Shopping Fans:

Great places to go Cat!
This is a fun outlet mall--it's all indoors, unlike most others in OK & TX. It's got an ice skating rink, a theatre, and I think it has a Disney Store! I hope it still does anyway!

Case in point: The DISgeeks family just returned from our family vacation with friends in Orlando, which (of course!) included a visit to the World! :cloud9: I'm just now playing catch-up on my favorite threads!

Actually, I'm also feeling a bit guilty that I ran out of time to send postcards to my DISboard friends. 'Guess this "virtual" sentiment will have to do:

Chillin' in the Toy Story Mania queue. Wish you were here!
Love, The DISgeeks Family

WELCOME BACK DISGEEKS!!! I'm so glad you got to go to Disney World! Sneaking away without even telling us though...;) Really, I'm so glad you're back and can't wait to hear all about it...or as much as you want to tell!

Tooth!! I've thoroughly enjoyed your leg of the Road Trip, and I'm 'sorta bummed it got cut short! Thanks for our tour of Okie territory! I'm totally digging the trek across Route 66! :thumbsup2

Ooooh! Ahhhh! And, thank you for that act of kindness, tothesea. (The red room looks quite nice. I think I'll take first dibs...)

Although I am wondering what you're insinuating with that last comment... :rolleyes1 ("Well, I NEVER..." ;) )

Actually, I would never...:)

That comment was about me not remembering what happened that you guys were talking about...I felt bad ;) and it reminded me of a song...Last Name by Carrie Underwood. That would be found on the "Hot New Country" station. :teeth:

Speaking of music...

before we get too far away and leave the Dallas area, I wanted to make sure you all got your parting gifts from Oklahoma!

My personal favorite is Pam Tillis singing "Colors Of The Wind!"

And what are tunes without boots to scoot to! Especially in Texas!

I was going to pick a pair out for everyone, but it's a funny thing about boots...as much as you think you know someone, you just can't know what kind of boots they will like. This is where personalities really come out, and you get to indulge your inner cowboy/cowgirl! So have some fun!

Yippeeee! Boots for everyone!

I'm glad we didn't move too far into Texas before we got our new boots!

I think I'm gonna pick the little red boots on the top shelf...

Yeehaw!

I think I've managed to pick some suitably frou-frou, pretty-in-pink boots and such!

So.... Whaddyathink? (Mrs. DISgeeks twirls around in her new country get-up...)

Side Note: Obviously, that blonde model in the photo ain't me...

Puff puff puff (sound of running feet coming up behind the bus...)
Hey everybody! I just caught up - had to go check out all the cool places, food and shopping in Oklahoma and Texas so far before joining up with ya'll. My new boots are nicely worn in now! (I picked the ones with the winged hearts on the back.)

Tooth - Oklahoma rocked! What a great guide you are, and the Oklahoma gifts made me :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:. I had to stay in the green room with the dreamy bed at the B&B and am still working off the Root Beer and pizza. I bought some cool crafts at the fair not to mention indulging at the antiques market - hope there's room on the bus! Roadside attractions are some of my favorite parts of road trips, loved seeing the Blue Whale, Pops 66 and the Round Barn.

Cat - I always wondered where the Six Flags name came from! Fantastic cannonball - many many style points! Thanks for the barbecue and the wide variety of activities to choose from.

DISgeeks - Your new outfit would look great back in the red room at the B&B!

bytheblood - Welcome! Glad to know you're here!

Hey to Disneyfalcon and DSNY4ever!

For Outdoorsy Fans:

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World

If you don’t know what this is – then you probably don’t want to spend time here! But for those of you “happy campers” – here’s something for you to do.

Texas Touches at Bass Pro

I absolutely love the Bass Pro Shops!!!. They were supposed to build one here in Florence, AL but the plans fell through. It's probably good that they did because I would have spent all of our Disney trip money (plus more) there. There are plans to build one in Decatur, AL which is only about 1 hr away. There is already one in Nashville at the Opry Mills Mall. We usually go to the Opry Mills Mall around Christmas and I get to spend a LITTLE time in that Bass Pro Shop store.

And last but not least...

For Racing Fans:

Texas Motor Speedway

My 2 goals after I retire :
1. Get a job at WDW.
2. Visit every NASCAR racetrack.

Thanks Cat for the great tour!!!:thumbsup2

If I'm remembering it right, I think you forgot to make one last stop. :confused3 I don't know about everyone else, but I'm fealing a little hungry. Something real greasy and deep-fried sounds good right about now!!! :goodvibes

Yeah, I was thinking of you when I put in the racetrack.:thumbsup2

And shush! I haven't forgotten the greasy stop - that comes when you get to MY area. I just added in the DFW stuff as a bonus time filler so everyone could catch up. Snack on that bbq for now!

Since we haven't heard anything from Spreadingpixiedust, I figure the bus will start heading for Bryan/College Station (the OTHER giant Texas metroplex ;) ) either tonight or tomorrow.

And, um, prepare for a slower pace in B/CS - we don't have quite as much to do as DFW! :rotfl:

Not sure how long we'll be in B/CS, but Austin will follow.

I will be out of town on business next week, then the following week heading to WDW!!

Should I pre-prepare my segment of the roadtrip and send to one of y'all so you can copy/paste?

Or would you rather skip and come back to Austin a little later in the road trip?

Are you ready now? Cuz if so, it would be fine with me if you went first...

It's a straight shot to Austin from DFW, then you could send to B/CS when you were done.

I guess it depends if you want to be done, and not have to worry later, OR if you are so busy preparing for your "real" trips, that it would be a relief to put it off awhile.

Your call! :thumbsup2

Let's do Bryan first. I actually am very busy right now. Who's in charge here? Can we circle back to Austin later? I do have some things I'd like to share.

I think you and I are in charge right now!

Okay, we'll go to B/CS then if you're not ready when I'm done, we'll move on and come back to Austin. I agree - we need to see something of Austin!

I'll PM disgeeks so she's aware...

If we don't hear from you before - have a good business trip, and a GREAT trip to Disney! :woohoo:

I agree with Cat. We can always do a loop-around and make our way back to Austin. Since 3g&g isn't here to drive us around, we'll have to make do.

15 – catotigger (Bryan, TX)
16 – swwaake (Austin, TX)
17 – calliaz (Tempe, AZ)
18 – Disneyfalcon (Colorado Springs, CO)
19 – FirstTimeCaller (Freeland, WA)
20 – circusgirl (Seattle, WA)
21 (a.) - mrs autopia driver (Bremerton, WA)
21 (b.) - wotruba-disney/Mr. Autotopia (Bremerton, WA)
22 - DSNY4ever (Folsom, CA)
23 – CalDisneyFamily (California)
24 - Disneyland (Anaheim, CA)
25 - Miss Stitch (Leeds, England)
26 - disneyhockeymad (Kent, England)
27 - Disneyland Resort Paris

By looking at the remainder of the stops on our Road Trip, I think I'm safe in saying take your time and post when you can. Most of the remaining people have been laying low. As a matter of fact, has anyone heard from any of our oversea's stops?:confused3

Thanks for the "heads up"! You definitely have my blessing -- for what it's worth... ;)

(Fortunately, last-minute changes are a breeze when you're traveling virtually! :teeth: )

Happy (and safe!) travels, swwake!! Give us a holler when you're back in town, and we'll zig-zag our big old Party Bus in your direction! :thumbsup2
