Sue and I were in an airplane returning from Orlando (of all places) and were about to land at Akron/Canton airport just as the full force of the storm hit that area. Our pilot made a couple of valiant attempts to land the jet before he was ordered to divert to Pittsburgh. When we landed in Pittsburgh, we immediately called home to let Sue's mom and our kids know that we most likely would not be arriving home anytime soon. At that moment, the warning sirens in Macedonia were sounding. At about the same time, a tornado touched down 5 blocks from our house and flattened one home and seriously damaged several others. Our kids and Sue's mom rode out the storm without any ill effects (although I believe that Sarah probably clung to Nana all night long). Sue and I spent the night in Pittsburgh and took an early morning bus ride back to Akron/Canton airport. We got home around 10AM this morning, safe and sound. I'm going to give my kids a great big hug when I get home from work tonight.
Prayers for those who were less fortunate than us in the face of nature's fury.
