sent the final payment yesterday. so i figure in about 2 full weeks we might be able to book a trip??

our uy is october so on october 1st we get 200 pts. there was also banked pts 142 from 2007 . if i want to book a trip for this october can I since they are banked??? not sure how the banking works.

I think you have something wrong, because you're still in your 2007 use year. You can't have points banked "from" 2007 yet. 2007 use year points are available from October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008.

I can think of three possibilities, you'll need to figure out which one applies. Call the company you're purchasing from, and they should be able to tell you.

1. They are 2006 use year points that were banked into 2007. In this case, they must be used by September 30, 2008.

2. They are 2007 current year points. They can no longer be banked (deadline was May 31, 2008), and must be used by September 30, 2008.

3. They are 2007 use year points that have already been banked, and can be used from October 1, 2008 to September 30, 2009.

When you buy resale, it usually takes 7-10 days after closing to get in the system (sometimes it goes a little faster, though). You have to be in the system before you can make a reservation. Two weeks sounds about right to me if the closing goes smoothly.

With an October use year, your

2007 points are good for trips between 10/1/2007 and 9/30/2008
2008 points are good for trips between 10/1/2008 and 9/30/2009
2009 points are good for trips between 10/1/2009 and 9/30/2010
etc.

If the 2007 points were banked, that means they are now valid for trips between 10/1/2008 and 9/30/2009. If you do not use the banked points before 9/30/2009, they expire and are lost to you.

Banking is a final transaction - once banked, points cannot be returned to their original use year.

If you are booking an October 2008 trip, be sure MS uses the banked points up before starting in on any of your 2008 points. You can bank the 2008 points into the 2009 use year, if you don't need to use all of the 2008 points prior to 9/30/2009.

If you decide to bank any 2008 points, you must call to do it before the end of May, 2009.

The previous owner could have banked the 2007 points any time between 10/1/2007 and 5/31/2008! In fact, Oct 2007 points would have to be banked during that period.

To the OP: your banked 2007 points can be used for ressies commencing any time after 10/1/2008, and they should automatically be used before your regular 2008 points are touched. It's a good idea to double-check every ressie transaction to be sure you know exactly how many points were used and which pile they came from.

Sorry, I hate to keep harking on a single word, but I want to make sure you don't lose points. When you say the previous owner banked 142 points "for" 2007, I'm still getting confused. What exactly does the contract say? I don't know if you're saying:

The previous owners banked 142 points for 2007 (as in they banked 2006 points for use in 2007), or

No, not at all. They're probably just free points to you.

Just be sure MS uses those banked points first, before they use your regular 2008 allocation, which they should do automatically. The reason, obviously, is that the banked points can't be re-banked and will expire at the end of your 2008 UY. Any unused regular 2008 points can be banked up through May 31, 2009, so you want to use those last to preserve your banking options.
