We are Home

Hi Karen!

Glad you had a great time!

We just got back too! I am relieved to see that you thought it was really crowded too! A few people have been saying that they thought it was extremely quiet and very low crowds and have been making me feel like Im going crazy!!

The free dining (seeing as we were not partaking in it) was not good for us- in fact we spent much less time in the parks due to crowds.
The last few days we had around Ernesto's expected arrival were pretty quiet but other than that we found it exceptionally busy for this time of year!

Welcome home Karen :grouphug:

Glad you had a great time, I am even more excited (if possble) about my 1 night ar HRH!

I think it must have depended on which days you went in the parks and what times you ate.
I found a website advising which days are the quietest before we went and I planned around the advise, it worked very well, we also dont have breakfast and eat at around 12 noon, longest line for food was 2-3 mins or 2 people.
With having annual passes it was good to get in early stay for lunch and get out again before parades so we missed the busy afternoons. Did magic Kingdom 7 times to get Loads of VMK quest codes.

Karen great to hear from you and definitely the highs out way the lows.

Was please that POFQ got the :thumbsup2 as that is on our list give the 5 person occupancy.

HRH might be worth a look given your recommendations.

Hi Karen - looks like you were there at the same time as us - except we did the first part of our holiday at Universal (Royal Pacific) and the second at SSR. We did it this way around as we thought our first week would be busier with the crowds and our FOTL passes would be more useful. We spent an afternoon around the pool at Hard Rock - DH still talking about the underwater sound system - and we had fun on the slide.

We went to a couple of the same restaurants - Chilis - which we thought was really good and great value and Sci Fi.

In WDW we also waited for around half an hour for hot dog and fries - in Fantasyland - we tried to beat the crowds by going early but they hadn't made the things yet - this was at the new place that sells McDonalds fries near Snow White - avoid. The Monday (28/8) we thought was really busy in MK but the Thursday it was very quiet - strange because it was the Thursday that was an early entry morning. The busiest day of all turned out to be Busch Gardens the previous Monday with 45 minute waits.

we followed TGM's excellent advice.. but when the hotels are THAT busy, you just dont stand a chance.
We dont do early mornings though.

Its interesting, everyone saying there was light crowds got to the parks really early.

We never get to the parks early, so im comparing to last year when we also were not at the parks before midday...

And I guess it depends what youre comparing it to. If you compare it to July crowds then its going to seem pretty quiet.

Welcome home Karen, thanks for the positive reviews of POFQ as we're staying there for the first time in a couple of weeks (oooh how I love saying that!) do you have any tips to help with the bus situation?

Your positive review of the Hard Rock Hotel came at exactly the same time as friends of ours returned from staying there and they were just as enthusiastic as you. We have never stayed in a WDW resort hotel and next month we are staying on I-Drive, but I have to say that whenever our next trip to Orlando occurs, the HRH may very likely be our base.

Hi karen! Glad that you had a wonderful time - as usual!!! How exciting to getting Amber and Erin on the rides!! (No more Mexico ride then! ;) ) HRH sounds wonderful, I bet jon loved it!

On to booking your next trip? :teeth:

Carol, it is lovely, really beautiful. Ummmm the bus thing, well I suspect it may just have been the fact that it was so busy it took longer to onload and offload people round the resort? Really I have always loved the WDW buses before, I just found all the extra stops at POR before leaving to the parks a bit tiresome. Sorry to sound like a whinger ;)

Wayne, it must have done. We spent 14 separate days at a Disney park though over the three weeks and it was busy everywhere, especially for food. We get there for park opening and it was still busy (relative to previous Augusts) then. The food service places were awful everywhere on every day we tried (until August 30th/31st as previously stated when the parks were lovely and quiet).

Welcome Home Karen

We are off next Sept in the middle of the free dining plan...will have to plan me thinks.

Welcome home, Karen. Thanks for sharing your highs and lows with us. Glad you enjoyed HRH. I can't wait to get back to the only hotel I've ever wanted to live in!
