We Are Going to Drink Mickey Under The Table! March 09' TR!

I had fallen behind while I was away, but I'm all caught up now! Glad you all made it safely and found your way to Planet Hollywood!

Sorry I've been MIA for a bit. Between blizzards, Christmas, and New Year's I haven't been able to work on a new update! I will have one very shortly!

Ha ha. It looks like there's orange juice in it. Do you remember what kind of booze? Vodka?

I just checked the drink menu and am almost positive it was the "Clockwork Orange" cocktail. They have it described on the menu as "Violent tendencies fade away with this blend of Van Gogh orange vodka, orange juice and sprite!"

joining in. can't wait to hear more..and see all the tasty drinks consumed, as well as the adventures that followed! ;)

Glad your reading! Just wait - there are plenty more tales of our drinking adventures to follow!

I had fallen behind while I was away, but I'm all caught up now! Glad you all made it safely and found your way to Planet Hollywood!

Now I need to get caught up on yours! I've been neglecting not only writing my TR but reading everyone else's as well.

While I'm working on the next update I wanted to share with you a few pictures that were previously missing from past posts.

The first is from our stop at JR's. See they really do have everything!

Next is another pic from South of the Border. It took us at least 20min to get this pic taken between Ashley, Jen, and me climbing up on the dog, then Dan propping up the camera on a broken down picnic table, and then set the timer and take a running leap onto the dog's back before the camera went off!

I followed you over from my TR. This look like fun and I am in to the finish. You all are a crazy bunch, I can't wait for more.

Thanks Ty! Sorry I haven't posted an update recently. I have been having problems with our Photopass CD - it loads on the computer, but when I click to view the pictures nothing is happening. We have a ton of pictures from the parks that I want to include in the TR! I am going to work on it more today to see if I can figure out what the problem is.

Hope you get it fixed. I had problems with photobucket a few years ago and my TR was practically pictureless, it bummed me out to no end. Good luck witht hat.

just checking in, seeing if maybe you got something going.

I was able to get all my PhotoPass pictures off of the CD last week (thanks Dan!) I've started writing the next installment and hope to have it posted this afternoon or tonight!

(Sorry this will be the last update without pictures – I think we were all in a daze from lack of sleep that no one thought to take any. I’ll try to find a few online to make this chapter a bit less boring. )

Now that we had taken care of the important things, food and drinks, it was time for our vacation to begin! None of us was really in a shopping mood, and it was too late to go to any of the parks, so we decided to venture over to Disney Quest. Dan was the only one who had visited there before, so the rest of us had no idea what to expect (it was the only place he had fun on his past trip with his parents.)

disneyquest.jpg

We all get into our little elevator, watched the cute intro show (something to do with Aladdin and the Genie), and were soon dropped off into the most confusing place we had ever been in. I’m not sure if it was just me (and my lack of sleep or consumption of vodka) but I never knew where I was going or what direction I was headed in. It felt like there was a giant sea of people we were trying to direct ourselves around. It was also a bit dark in there, and each floor looked the same, so that didn’t help the situation.

The one thing Dan was really looking forward to on this trip was getting to ride the Buzz Lightyear AstroBlasters, so that is where we decided to start our night.

Astroblaster.jpg

We eventually made our way to the ride and after just a few min wait (we lucked out it got longer after we had finished) we were boarding our AstroBlasters. Jen and Dan rode together while Ashley and I got into a car.

I “borrowed” this description of the ride from AllEars: “These are the bumper cars of the future. Two people team up in each car -- one to steer and one to shoot balls at the targets on the other cars. If you're hit, your car will spin out of control!”

astroblastercar.jpg

Ashley decided to be the navigator and I was the shooter. The navigator’s job is to drive the car over these balls lying over the floor, which would cause the ball to be sucked up inside your car. Once you have a ball, the shooter then loads the ball into a blaster gun and takes aim at the other cars driving around. Each car has target spots that you aim at. If you hit another car’s target, the car will stop and spin around for about 15 seconds (I was not aware of this feature, I hate spinning rides and was so glad it did not last very long.) Needless to say, I as the shooter was extremely disoriented after spinning (and we got hit a lot – thanks Jen and Dan!) and could not aim for the life of me. I don’t even think I was able to hit one target.

After the spinning ceased, we wandered around some more and found ourselves at the Virtual Jungle Cruise.

Ride Description also "borrowed" from AllEars: “Climb aboard a life-sized rubber raft with your friends and family, pick up a paddle and start rowing. On the screen in front of you, you'll see yourselves moving down a river during the age of the dinosaurs. The raft will pitch and roll along with the river, and watch out -- you may get splashed!”

There was another short line and soon all four of us were moseying our way down the river.

Now, I don’t want to offend anyone who likes this ride, but we all thought it was terrible. Our lack of enjoyment could have been caused by us not having a clue what we were doing, but we gave it our best effort.

The ride consists of an inflatable boat everyone sits on (think whitewater rafting boat,) and everyone gets a paddle that has wheels at the bottom of it. When your ride starts, your “raft” is lifted up on a very large air pillow. You then have to “paddle” with your oar by hitting it against the air pillow. In our two plus min ride, I think we maybe traveled about 20 feet. We just could not get ourselves coordinated. Jen kept yelling at me to “paddle harder” but nothing was happening. At one point, I just kept stabbing my oar into the air blanket to see if we would move at all. Another part I was not fond of is in order to make it seem more “realistic” there are different spots on the air pillow that “mist” water on you. I don’t know where they were located but I do know that I was consistently had water squirted into my eyes, which hindered my ability to paddle efficiently, as I had to keep wiping my face off. I also would not recommend this ride to those that are prone to motion sickness. To us, it felt like we were bobbing all over the place and had no real control. Ash, Dan, and myself all felt a bit queasy after we got off.

After our nauseating Jungle Cruise adventure, Dan decided to entertain us by breaking out in song:

“Ever since I was a young boy,
I've played the silver ball.
From SoHo down to Brighton,
I must have played them all.
But I ain't seen nothin' like him
In any amusement hall.
That deaf, dumb and blind kid
Sure plays a mean pinball.”

Our next stop was to see if we could find “Tommy” over by the Mighty Ducks Pinball game. Description taken from AllEars: “In this pinball game, you are the ball! Stand on a giant-sized joystick and watch your progress as you steer yourself among the other live balls on an enormous screen."

disney-quest.jpg

This was a lot more fun than the previous ride, but again we had no clue what to do and just went with it. Each person gets their own “joystick” and the object is to contort your body in different positions so that you can move your ball around the giant pinball screen above. The tricky part is locating, and keeping track of your ball on the screen, as there are many others bouncing around with yours. Overall, it was a lot more enjoyable than the Jungle Cruise, but we were all a bit out of breath after it.

We split up after becoming Pinball Wizards, and played some of the stand-alone games that were scattered everywhere. (I didn’t realize that all of these games are free of charge – a very unexpected surprise.) Ashley and I hit up some old school games like Ms. Pac-Man, and then just wandered around lost for the next hour trying to find Jen and Dan. Sleep deprivation was quickly setting in and once we found then we decided to call it a night (it was around midnight and closing time) and headed back to our resort.

Next up, our first day in the parks! (with pictures – that weren’t “borrowed.”)

That was a great update. I visited DisneyQuest my first trip in 06, I am not a gamer so I didn't have fun at all, but I didn't really know about all the other stuff, I think after a few tries of old school Galaga and Centipede I just gave up on DQ al ltogether. I might need to give it another try again, it sounds like you had fun, especially the bumper car one.

The bumper cars we're a lot of fun once we got the hang of it all...Too bad it was in the last few seconds of the game ha ha. All in all I'd definitely like to get back there for more time and with a good night of sleep under our belts before hand. Disney Quest was a good time, wish we got back there once more before our trip was over. Oh well... I'm so excited your finally getting to the first day in the park! Keep up the good work :yay:

I really have no clue about Disney Quest. I knew it was around and knew that as my kids got older I was going to have to give it a try. It just hasn't happened yet. I can see the appeal. However, I think I'd be happier shopping while the kidlets played. I get vertigo pretty easy.

Thanks! Disney Quest can be fun for even the none gamer. I personally would not be able to spend all day in there, but a few hours here and wouldn't be too bad. They have a lot of rides/attractions that I read more about after coming home and wished that we had tried them out. We had hoped we were going to be able to hit it up again before we left, but just never had the time.

Next time - I'm driving! It would def be more enjoyable had we slept, but we will just have to go back again next time - (Sept right???)

Hopefully I will have the first "park" day posted at some point today!

I wish I had done some research before we had left, but instead spent our time researching where and what types of alcohol could be purchased in every park (the latter prob helped us out more throughout the week though.)

Are you planning on taking your kids to Disney Quest this summer, or gonna wait another few years? You can have your mom take them so you can enjoy a shopping spree at DTD!

I am totally in! I am leaving in one week for my trip drinking around the world lol so your report will tide me over til then. I cant wait to read more...it sounds like you guys had almost as much fun getting there as being there lol

The next morning we slept in a bit, and prob woke up around 10ish. We are all hungry so we finished off some cold leftover chicken that Dan had from Planet Hollywood, and then decided to venture off property to pick up some snacks and a few things we needed. We wanted to avoid spending a ridiculous amount of $$ for some bottles of water, some chips, and some beer from the gift shop. Since we had a car and a GPS, we figured how hard could it be?

Well our short trip turned into an 1 hr 30 min ordeal. We managed to get lost getting off Disney property, made rights when we were supposed to turn left, and finally ended up at the most expensive convenience in Orlando. Between the 4 of us, I think we spent close to $70 for like 8 items. If we had made it to Target, it would have all come to like $30 I’m sure. Needless to say it was the last time we ventured off Disney property until we headed home. The one good thing about our excursion was that on the way home, we managed to get lost again, but we were lost in Celebration! It was neat to drive around the little town to see how a “perfect” community looked. It also made us all want to go and watch the Truman Show.

After our not so quick side trip, we made our way back to Disney and got ready to head out to our first park!
