WDW vets new to Disneyland - Here's what we've come up with so far. Please answer our ??'s, add your thoughts and advice ... see if this itenerary makes sense or where we might go wrong ... All questions and comments welcomed. Thank you!

-Travel dates flexible - tentative dates arrive 4/19/09 - depart 4/26/09

- Four nights @ Paradise Pier Concierge Theme Park View

- Flying in to SNA (Orange County) airport from IND (Indianapolis)

- 5 day park hoppers

- "Welcome to Disneyland" tour first full day (we love tours, have done most of the ones @ WDW, Disney Visa members - can get discount on this tour)

- No dining plan but considering Princess Character lunch or dinner; voucher can also be used toward lunch/dinner at other restaurants

- Tour of LA (definately), Universal Studios (maybe), Show taping in Burbank (maybe), Visit the beach (Newport, Venice - maybe)

- One day each for LA, Universal , Show taping, beach, etc... Should we use Anaheim/DLR as a base for these activities or switch hotels???

- Car rental for duration of trip

Late April is off-season at DLR which has pros and cons which are different than WDW. Be sure you understand them before choosing firm dates for the DLR portion of your trip. See

"What You Should Know About Off-Season at DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18462889

Also, this thread gets lots of mileage around here:

You will not need a car at DLR. Only for your other excursions. Anaheim is as good a place as any to use as a base.

The beach will be cold in April and the water too cold to go into (unless you have a wetsuit). Even sitting on the beach will not be that enjoyable. You can however walk the boardwalks, piers, etc., and if that is what you mean by "visit the beach" then have at it. But do not think you will have a nice day on the sand. You can't really do that until late May usually.

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

For TV shows you will have to have tickets already. They usually tape towards the end of the week at night so you could do a tour prior. Gromans Chinese Theatre is where you can pick up tours as well as some movie taping tickets. Universal studios is fun and one day is enough time. Traffic sucks getting there so plan on going early and staying for dinner and coming back later. Disneyland shouldn't be crowded. You really don't need the tour unless you want to. I like Goofy's kitchen for breakfast or dinner (buffet). Blue Bayou restaraunt is good. The restaraunt sits inside with the view of the bayou in the Pirates ride. Corn dogs are a must while waiting for the parade.
