We are back! Had a fantastic holiday, going to be the last one for a while, as we are hoping to move house next year boo! I don’t have the time to post a trip review but in my jetlagged state I am going to do my food review with photos!

I am posting a food review: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=44929754#post44929754

Highs

Virgin Holidays – excellent from start to finish, we got a great price cheaper than the doing DIY. I know they get a bad reputation on here, but when I had a couple of queries the facebook team or the customer service centre via email always got back to me quickly. Didn’t make use of the reps apart from to collect the $300 gift card at the airport, but there were plenty of them around.

Premier Inn Manchester Airport FT – Brilliant, clean and quiet for the night before. Really please we cancelled the Radission and went with this as it only cost £30!

Manchester Airport Valet parking terminal 2 – Again really good, and was a great price. No problems and would use this again as it was so easy.

V-Room at Manchester airport – loved it! I have got a few photos in my food review, it was an excellent start to the holiday, so relaxing and quiet (we were in the adults only section), and the food was great too!

Virgin Atlantic flights – We were on the new planes on row 35, near the front of economy and both flights were great. The new planes make such a difference! The IFE was fantastic, I actually wanted to stay awake on the return journey so I could watch all five parts of the HBO Mildred Pierce mini-series I was watching. Cabin crew were great, and handled a poorly lady near us very well. We don’t really eat the food, so can’t comment on that, but there were plenty of drinks and best of all we landed EARLY on the way out and one time on the way back! We were through immigration in about 15 mins from landing.

Saratoga Springs Resort – Loved it! Our online check in requests were met, and we were in the Springs section on the 4th floor. For us upgrading to a 1 bedroom was worth it, I loved all the extra space and the Jacuzzi bath! We have come home no dirty washing thanks to the washer and dryer! The villa was immaculate, mousekeeping fab and we loved how quiet the resort was. Buses were excellent we only stood twice and usually waited less than 5 mins, and only had a couple of 10 mins wait. It really is a beautiful resort, and we are looking to buy DVC here!

Free $300 gift card, was fab to have an we have come home with a few collectibles from the retro WDW “Shag” collection the it’s a small world one from the art of Disney store

Lows:

Sanaa – We loved this restaurant when we went previously, my dish was great, but my husband’s lacked any taste, and we had an awful server who didn’t know what she was doing. We were there nearly 2 hours for one course, we left after one as we couldn’t bear it any longer. I will write more about it in my food review but it’s a shame as we loved it previously.

Trail Ends Restaurant – Awful in one word. We both hated it, but had a good laugh about it afterwards. I thought I would really like Fort Wilderness as we are big Wilderness Lodge fans, but its not for us we felt like we were in the film Wrong Turn…… More in the food review (no photos though I was too scared!).

Fellow guests – So a few obnoxious/spoilt children on the trip and their behaviour annoyed me (not my husband though I think I have a far lower tolerance level than him!). For example one was screaming in the Saratoga springs lobby that they didn’t have concierge and how unfair it was………interestingly none of these were from the UK!

The parks were busier than we were expecting, but nothing that we couldn’t manage with fastpasses etc. I wouldn’t say they were busy but I wouldn’t describe it was low season either?

I haven’t put the free DDP as a high or a low, it was fab to have it for free but it was far too much food. We swapped around ADRS when we were there as we couldn’t keep up. We have done the free DDP before, I would never pay for it but do enjoy the table service restaurants, just not as many!

Welcome home, the highs outweighed the lows.
Glad you had a great time. Looking forward to reading your food report :)

Glad you had a great time!

Did you fly on VS075? Just wondering because we are and I hope our plane is as good :)

Sounds like you had a great time overall! Will have a read of your report, this is the first time for us eating at Disney other than in the parks so interested to see your reviews :goodvibes

welcome back!!

thanks for sharing your highs and low!

agree about dining - so much food....we ended up with unused table, counter and snack service credits....and that's in spite of eating non-stop....
just an enormous amount of food....and we do like to eat....but it was so much!!

as for having a washer/dryer - isn't that the best thing of all!!!
everyone on this board thinks i'm nuts whenever i mention that a 1 or 2 bedroom is worth it for me just to have that washer/dryer!!!
it makes the holiday so very easy....it sounds silly i'm sure, but i just love having a washer/dryer in my room!!

May isn't really low season....since it's already close to the end of the school year, americans are much more likely to take their kids out of school to go to WDW than at the beginning of the school year....so you encounter more families than you might expect...
in addition, they don't run the parks as if it's high season, so even if the crowds are lighter, you still feel as if the crowds are heavier on the rides..

sorry about the fellow guests!!..i too have a very low tolerance level, but i try not to let it get to me...though sometimes it's VERY difficult!!

Glad to hear you had a great time :goodvibes Now excuse me while I rush over to your food reviews as I'm a bit obsessed by them at the moment....

Thank you for posting your mini review - I have just joined the food thread you have posted so will keep up on there too :)

Welcome home.
Waiting to hear why you didn't like Trails End, eaten there 4 times now, more than any other onsite restaurant and one of the few I will pay OOP for. Its probably the only onsite buffet we all still enjoy. Just like Hoop Dee Doo next door, my kind of food, I am happy with peeling prawns, ribs and Southern fried chicken.

We like our food, DDP is just the right amount, only credits we have ever had spare are snacks and we are going to try harder to use those up this year. 21 days of DDP I can't wait:goodvibes

Will read food thread when I get time.:thumbsup2

Beth, Im with you on the Washer/dryers.

DH has even looked for one for me to ship over to the UK as I seriously love those machines. Unfortunately I understand they dont work on our electricity currents.:confused3

Thank you for taking the time to post your highs and lows, I'm completely with you on Sanna, had a shocking meal there in 2010:crazy2:

Thanks for the info, especially the restaurant, I am just putting my ADR's together.

We are on the same flight number, but how was the positioning of your seats. They are still free on our flight and tempted to change!

Thanks

Seats were fab, I always go as far as I can to the front of economy on the left hand side to get off the plane quicker and get through security :)

You are one of the first served for meals etc so you should get the full choice from the menu :)

Just changed them - thanks. I am a bit worried about such a long flight with a 7 year old, anything that makes things easier the better!

Do you pay extra for the V Lounge?

Thanks for the info on the new Virgin planes,I changed my flight times so i could fly on the new plane there and back,But with loads of people saying the seats was uncomfortable and they preferred the old plane I was getting worried! Im a HUGE worrier :lmao: And so i just love it when I hear something positive about something ive planned or somewhere we are going!

Also did you rent a car? We are stating at SSR for the 1st time ina 2 bed as there is 6 of us,I was wondering about how you founf the resort size? and if you used the Artist palatte did you think it was Ok! Was you allowed to change your counters for snacks (I know this was stopped but there has been thread again about CMs doing this again for people ) so just wondering if you tried!

P.s Dh will be so so happy about the washing machine as where i tend to leave it all he goes 3/4 times to the laundry room on all of our trips and always makes sure its done again before home time so its all clean!!:thumbsup2

i have a maytag washer and dryer that work on 220. but they cost 5 arms and 100 legs....
they've lasted forever, but when they break, i'll go european (maybe bosch?)

but when on holiday, especially when we're there for 2 or 3 weeks, having that washer and dryer in the room is fab!!! so convenient!!!
at OKW, the 2 bedroom has a laundry room about 3 times the size of the one i have at home (i don't have a laundry room at home, the machines are in the bathroom )

welcome home, sounds like you had a great time.x

Thank you - we did!

I have read the same reports and was expecting to find the seats uncomfortable, didn't find this at all, they were fine!

We didn't hire a car the bus service was great. The resort is huge so I would think about where you want to stay and request it. They are all close to buses and refillable mug stations, apart from congress park which doesn't have one, and you have to walk to springs.

We used artist palette and it was fine (photos in food trip report above ) for a quick bite to eat, you are so close to DTD with so much choice. It was nice and quiet there and all the cast members were lovely, I think as its quiet they have more time for you.

We were able to swap 1 counter service credit for 3 snacks in artist palette we did this on the last day as we had one left over :)
