We are all Americans BUT

Although I have visited NJ many times, its always to the beach where its filled with people vacationing from other states. I picture all New Jersians having big Bon Jovi hair and driving black trans ams.

:lmao::lmao:I havent had that hair since the late 80's and have never owned a trans am.

I agree with the others about the reality shows giving us a bad name. I dont know anyone who looks or acts like the people in those shows. Some arent even from Jersey.

I am a huge Stephanie Plum fam and crack up while reading the books. Although I am not from the Burg and have never even been to Trenton. I am more from the area from you will find more Illegals than legals.

I know it can't possibly be true, but getting good office help must be hard in the south, because I swear that every time I've dealt with a clueless administrative assistant, they're calling me from a southern state!

New Yorkers aren't rude, they just come off that way because they talk fast and you can't get a word in edgewise. I like NYers, I just hate talking to them! ;)

Visiting CA, CA'ers are....different. Not in bad way, but there is something about the whole state that just seems a bit...off. Hard to describe. Nice place to visit, wouldn't ever want to live there.

Curious to know what people think of Illinoisans. :)

Opinions can be so different. I know that when I worked customer service, I found people in the south to be a little more clued in than up north. OUt west was the same way. I had to explain how to get around something, had to do with credit card payment and the southerners got it. I actually had a CPA for New Jersey i think, and just didn't get it, but any good ole boy form down here got it.

I think it varies from person to person really, every state has some idiots and some really smart people.

Actually, there ARE people from North Dakota. My mom for one. And there are other people living there too!! I can verify that because we would go there for summer vacations!!!!:rotfl: You can drive for miles out there and not see anyone.

I have lived in California, Texas, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Missouri. The only states I have not visited are Alaska and North/South Dakota.

I think my biggest stereotype that turned out to be false was that everyone in Louisianna sits around on gorgeous little patios drinking mint juleps.

CA-Everyone is outside all the time and are never in their homes. :lmao:
NJ-over the top for everything.
TX-gun toting, truck driving, ranchers.
GA-every woman walks around in big southern dresses and have garden parties.

I can relate! It's a nice daydream. Not the worst stereotype to have. :)

I thought summers in CA would be perfect and sunny. No way...between May gray and June gloom (which dragged on far into July this year) there was almost no beach weather!

I also thought people in CA would be friendlier. I've experienced far more rudeness and bad driving here than anywhere else in the country that I've lived.

1. I need to understand AND speak spanish to live in Florida
2. Southern women spend all their time gossiping about one another
3. East & west coasts are WAY overpriced.
4. There is nothing but farm fields in Iowa, Kansas, etc.
5. lots of hillbillys in West Virginia, Arkansas, etc.
6. Alaska must have a ratio of 10 men to every 1 woman for a reason....;)
7. People living in Louisiana are all into voodoo

Isn't this horrible??!! I KNOW this will get me in trouble! Sorry in advance...

People from Illinois mistake slop for pizza. :upsidedow

Will someone from Wyoming PLEASE visit Epcot and attend a Voices of Liberty performance!

While I sort of agree, as long as everyone knows that these are just sterotypes, and not facts, I think sharing, and correcting misconceptions is a good thing.

I've run into many, many misconceptions about people from my home state of Alabama. I keep hoping that most of these will die out as the population becomes more educated about bias in general. I once introduced myself to a man from the state of Washington. He asked where I was from, and I replied, "Alabama." His reaction was to crinkle up his nose and proclaim that he had never known of anything good that had come from Alabama. Yes, I was offended, but I also felt sorry for him. Who would say something like that?

In the early 1980's my father used to travel from Birmingham to New jersey for work regularly. He came home on quite a few occasions shaking his head at some of the things he heard. He had people ask if Alabamians wore shoes, if we had indoor plumbing, and if we were all racists. ignorance is truly an ugly thing.

I worked with a girl from Alabama. She was smart attractive, articulate, and well educated. I guess that forms all my beliefs about Alabama since she is the only one I've ever met.

Was she born there or was she born somewhere else and then moved to Bama? ;)

Yeah, it's funny how our preconceived notions come from TV, movies, or books. For me:

Illinois - any John Hughes movie, such as "Ferris Bueller" or "Home Alone"
Texas - "King of the Hill" (I'll tell you what.....)
NY - "Everybody Loves Raymond" or "Will & Grace", North Dakota - "Fargo"
NJ - "The Sopranos" or "Jersey Shore", now "Boardwalk Empire"
NC - "The Andy Griffith Show"
Maine = Stephen King
Washington - grunge music scene, Starbucks
Colorado - tree huggers
Nevada - "CSI"

Just a few....:goodvibes

Hawaii - boring

Kansas - flat

Montana - cold

Washington - rainy

California - smog

West Virginia - coal miners

Texas - big ranches

Nevada - gambling

Alaska - isolated

Delaware - what's there?

Colorado - beautiful

Oregon - beautiful

Arizona - hot
------------------------

Is that enough? :rotfl:

I'm from Oklahoma and yes, we do have tornadoes.

Somebody actually asked on my last work trip to Disney, "Do you have cable where you live?" :lmao::lmao:

Hawaii smells like pineapples and carnations and there are ukelele players all around

Everybody in the state of Maine pronounces words like their from a Steven King novel and they all have a bunch of apple trees in their backyard.
