Boss - you're close, but Escobar was from the country, not the universoty (Colombia/Columbia It was indeed the 1994 game against the US. That game ended up 2-1 in favor of the US. The sda fact is that Escobar did not really lose the game for Colombia. The team, expected to do very well that year lost the first two games before finally beating Switzerland in desparation.
