Lets see something:

1993: Toronto
1992: Toronto
1980: Philly
1948: Cleveland - oh poor Steve, no wonder why he is so sad.
1918: Boston - oh Higgs, maybe you can share a beer with Steve

Seattle, really, they have a team?

Yes, they really have a team and if you look it up, they won more games than any team in the history of baseball in 2001 - 116.

WOW, that is awesome! So who was their MVP during their World Series championship season! I mean they did win the WS? Please don't tell me that 116 wins went for nothing! Please don't tell me that they chocked! Please tell me that they did not end up with the same fate as the 1954 Cleveland Indians. What's that, they couldn't win the games that really counted:teeth:

Boss - you know as well as I do, in any sport the post-season is all about who gets hot. And the MVP of the regular season (as well as batting champ and rookie of the year) was Ichiro, with Boone finishing 3rd to Giambi.........

I mean, honestly, the Blue Jays were NOT better than the Braves team they beat in the Series. They were just on a hot streak.

You can have the wins. We'll keep the World Series trophy :)

Looks like the Boss made my point already

It's also the post-season that counts. You can go 162 an oh, but if you can't win the big ones, it dont mean a thing if you ain't got the thing.

gom - I agree, however, the post-season is about who is hot, not necessarily who has the better team. In a series like that, one player can carry a team to victory.

For a five game series, maybe. But that's the beauty of baseball. Momentum can only go so far. To win the World Series you have to be conmsistent, have strong pitching and a deep bench. this isn't the Super Bowl where one game isn't the meaure of a success of a team. The majority of the time, in baseball , the best team wins as it did in 2001.

Not true. In 2001, the best team was the Mariners, clearly. However, they ran into a hotter Yankees team, who peaked at the right time. Then, in turn, the Yankees ran into a hotter D'Backs team who deservedly won the series.

Hell, look at last year. Were the Angels the best team in the majors last year? No. They weren't even the best team in the World Series (although I was glad they won). They were the hottest team in October. That's what the playoffs are all about. Very rarely does the best team in baseball win the World Series. The last time that happened, I believe was 1998 when the Yanks won 114 regular season games and then went on to win the World Series. Interleague play being so prominent now has really made the World Series a little less magical, IMO.

The 93 Jays finished the job and the had the leagues number 1, 2 and three batting leaders.

Sure we can all say that there are two different seasons, but at the end of the day what matters is how man championships your team has won.

I have always been a John Elway fan but he was never considered one of the top QBs because he never won the big game. He was always linked with Marino and Kelly, hell you could even include Tarkinton in there. QBs like Young, Montana, Favre, Aikman were always considered superior to the previously mentioned ones because they won the big game. It was not until Elway put to back to back championship seasons that he was linked with the Montanas of the world.

Do I agree with that? Is Marino second to all the others? Are these QBs of lesser talent? - No way. Marino is the league leader in passing yards I believe, how could he be brutal. Jim Kelly got to the super Bowl 4 times, any QB would kill for that shot. Before Elway won the big game I believe that he was dejected 3 previous times. It is just that we always associate winning with winning it all.

I grew up a Montreal Canadiens fan where there was no such thing as not winning the Stanley Cup. Should the Habs win every game in the regular season and not win the Cup, heads would role. I guess that is why I always stuck by the belief that you do need to win the big game in order let your legacy live. However, it is not the sole responsibility of only one player (i.e., Marino) to get the job done, it is ALWAYS a team effort.

Can some one shed some light on people who confess to crimes they did not commit. In yesterdays paper there was a whole page article on this phenomenon - it was crazy. They gave the usual reasons such as notoriety, to protect someone, police brutality, - but I still found it off the wall. For example, the Lindbergh case from 1932 had over 300 people confessing to the crime. Finally Bruno Richard Hauptmann was arrested, they found $14,000 of the ransom money in his garage. He never confessed to the crime.

...I chalk that right up there with those morons who are writing 'love letters' to Paul Benardo in his jail cell...there should be some law that ables police to arrest people before they commit a crime - I mean when you know someone is a few pixels short of a full screen, you just know.

Because.... even if you're dubbed a murderer, rapist, whatever... you're FAMOUS!! You're on TV all the time, your trial will be on Court TV, you'll get interviewed by Barbara Walters, everyone will know your name. If they can't get that through conventional means....i.e. EARNING IT, people who need attention that badly will resort to pretty much anything. Too hard to pass up for the siimple-minded :p

Excellent point Adri - I mean just look at me...how early on in my career did I discover that 'bad publicity' is the 'best publicity'??

Us 'button pushers' don't care if people are saying 'good' or 'bad' stuff about us, just as long as people are talking about us on some level - then we have suceeded. :teeth:
