Great idea! I'd take take an extra trip to stay in a castle done Disney style!

I guess my idea isn't very popular. There are a lot of different styles of National Park (and also State Park) lodges. They have already replicated the Fort Wilderness theme a couple of times over between the Wilderness Lodge, Wilderness DVC.
I love the WL! I just like the warm, cozy feeling of log cabins and such! So, your idea is great, but guess we will have to wait and see!

Disney had drawn up plans to build a suites only hotel on bay lake between the Contemporary and the transportation center. Unforntunately, the soil tests failed and the plans have been scrapped.

I'd like to see them finish Pop Century. After that I would love an Asian, Greco-Roman, or Art Deco inspired hotel.

Build another moderate :) That way I can afford to stay there :)

They get all their construction money back right away with the sales, and it doesn't matter if the economy is good or bad, since the dues pay all the expenses of keeping it up.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but it seems like with non-DVC resorts they must make back their construction costs pretty quickly, they charge 3-4 times the going rate for hotel rooms in Orlando. I just hope this is not an issue of becoming a really short-horizon company where they are just looking at revenues and costs for this year and not taking into account 10 years from now.

Don't worry Disney is always looking to the future. This is why all DVC ownerships are only temporary. Remember that a Disney hotel is not cheap. Animal Kingdom lodge cost over 500 million o build. Even if every room were filled every night of the year at an average of 200 dollars a night, it would take 6 years before the resort was paid before. Not to mention the insanely high operational costs.

With DVC they are pre-purchased. So 1000 rooms at 15000 for a week’s investment is about 624 million. That pays for the construction costs and now they will continue to receive maintenance fee each and every year that is guaranteed. At an average of $500 a week times 1000 rooms that’s an additional $26 million a year. In addition DVC is a guarantee that those guests are going to return to the world, and thus spend more money on other things. Not to mention if no DVC member books a room for a given time Disney has the right to rent in out like a normal hotel room, essentially equaling free money for Disney. The fact is DVC is a great investment for Disney both for the present and the future.

How about a resort built upon the idea of it being like the Haunted Mansion?

Also, people keep talking about the All Star hotels not being done? What do they have left to build??

The All-Stars are done. However Disney's other Value resort Pop Century is only half finished.

Thanks for laying out the numbers for me. Now it makes perfect sense.

I work with the Daughter-in-law of the gentleman in charge of construction of resorts at Disneyworld. Yes, I am in TN, he is originally from here, so yes it is possible for me to work with his Daughter-in-law. Anyhoo....He was the main contractor for Pop and Sarasota Springs. Yes, there is more to be built, but he was told that was it for Pop. That is why they have moved on. He said maybe down the road, but anytime soon??? No, Pop is the way it will be for awhile. But there is another DVC coming (he couldn't tell her, so she couldn't tell me.) There is something about the Contemporary that he was measuring and checking out, but again, he couldn't say anything more. He puts up the buildings, but has no say so on the theme, that's someone elses job, but he does know what it will be before the general public knows. But, I love talking to her about it. Right now, he has a job in Tampa for the next two months, then back to WDW. I pester her only once a week for new news, but she doesn't know anything yet. I'll let y'all know!!!!

wow you are definatly the "it" person on this thread! thanks for the info. im disapointed that they arent finishing POP though. we went last april and i loved it. it was so "blah" though to look across the lake at the deserted buildings. if they arent going to finish them its too bad they would level them and grow grass or a beach or somthing. i was l;ooking forward to going back to the new half when it was done.

...so I don't know if THIS has been mentioned yet, but how about one with an Ancient Greek/Athens theme?? Ya know, Gods and goddesses, the Parthenon, a giant Trojan horse....

Or, maybe this: Egyptian-themed with pyramids and stuff!

Funny...Those are two of first themes that came to my mind...I also thought of the Medieval Castle theme mentioned by Lorelai.

But I have a feeling that even if Disney were considering more resorts, these would not be the chosen themes. Why?! Vegas. These two themes were done on grand scale in Vegas. I could be wrong, but I just don't see Disney trying to outdo Vegas themes. Medieval may be possible, but with a Medieval Times right down the road, something tells me that it wouldn't happen.

So then I tried thinking outside the proverbial box...after all, that's where Disney has always made it's greatest impacts. I thought about the success of mountain themes inside the various parks and the idea came to me for a "Denali" themed resort....where the entire resort would be contained within the mountain and the rooms would be on the edges of the mountain looking out. (Hopefully I explained well what I envision in my head). It would likely be a very costly venture and likely put it in the deluxe range. The interior could be themed similarly to WL but with more of a polar feel to it.
