WDWNT confirms Tron Light Cycles to replace Speedway

WDWN(ews)T(oday) on Twitter says there's enough buzz throughout the inner circles to confirm that the Tomorrowland Speedway will be demolished in order to make room for the Tron Light Cycle attraction.

So, it looks like you won't have to go to Shanghai for this experience... but you'll have to wait, it should open just before the 50th Anniversary of the Magic Kingdom in 2021.

Speedway will close in 2018. Get your gas fume fix while you still can.

Though the Tron ride looks great... it's not going to service families like the speedway does. And that's a sad change.
(For example - the changes with Pirates might ruffle some feathers - but it doesn't take away from a whole group of people's ability to ride the ride.)

I love Tron, but I'll be sad to see the Speedway go. I'm all about improvement and innovation, and I think it'll be a great addition, but I'm sad to see such a WDW Classic go, despite the disparaging it often gets on these boards.

It's definitely not "confirmed". I don't know why on earth they put that in the article, but it's definitely not a surety. Would like to see it though
