wdwgirl goes on safari...May 14-19 with tons of pics and video: final update, p. 18

Wow! I had a lot of catching up to do!

The pirate and princess party looks like so much fun! You guys sure got a lot done during the party.

Sea World looks great. I haven't been there since I was really little...I'm going to have to check that out again someday. All of the shows look great. It's amazing that they can train those animals to do so many tricks when my dogs can hardly sit on command!!! :lmao:

Yeah, the party was a lot of fun! That's what's so great about the special ticket events...you are able to do so many things with hardly any wait at all. :thumbsup2 Definitely worth the extra expense for us.

You should definitely try to go back to Sea World...it's amazing and I love all the animals. :goodvibes

Yep I definitly want to try Sea World now. Urg but when will I find the time?? When I was a kid there were only 2 Disney parks in Orlando and it was so much easier to do Disney in a week lol! Of course I LOVE DHS and AK so I shouldn't complain just need a longer trip.

haha, that sounds like a good solution to me! Some day I'd like to take like a 2-week vacation and do all the theme parks in Orlando and go to the Kennedy Space Center...OK, maybe I'd need more than 2 weeks!

Hey we are back from the beach and I am all caught up on your report. You have posted some fun pictures and videos, thank you!! :thumbsup2 It looks like you had a great time!

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a nice weekend! Yesterday my family and I went to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois. It was the first time I'd been there in who knows how long. I know I shouldn't have but all I could do the whole time was compare everything to Disney World. Don't get me wrong, I had a good time but now I know why I love WDW/DL so much more. We basically went on all the major roller coasters (which was shocking for me...I'm still amazed that Emma talked me into going on Superman: Ultimate Flight! :scared1: which actually was pretty cool) but I think it was too many thrills for me. Emma and I both had pounding headaches after going on one of the wooden roller coasters. :guilty: As Dad said, there's not really any rides that you can just sit back and relax on like Snow White or Peter Pan. So I think I'll be sticking to Disney parks.

Now let's get to the next installment of my TR...

May 17 cont'd (part 3)

BELIEVE!

After lunch our goal was to see the Shamu show and then we'd have the rest of the afternoon to do whatever we wanted and not have to worry about making a show. We had some time before the show started so we strolled around the park before heading back to where the theater was. We saw the big kiddie area (you know, the place where my sister climbed the huge net thingy when she was little...I mentioned that in my PTR!). It definitely expanded since we were last there. There's a whole bunch of rides, games, etc. for the little ones.

On the way back we saw this little whale statue so of course we had to take a picture:
n20305212_33501855_9443.jpg

It was getting pretty hot/humid out and we knew the Shamu show was popular so we went into the stadium early to rest and cool off.
n20305212_33501856_9757.jpg

The stadium was HUGE! It even had its own concession stands and there were vendors roaming around like at a baseball stadium (I thought it was amusing how they were selling Shamu towels down in the splash zone…which we decided NOT to sit in, haha). We each decided to get a lemonade to drink while we waited for the show. It was kind of neat watching the trainers "warm up" before the show (they'd swim in the pool and then go "talk" to the whales). They also had fun little trivia questions up on the big screens about marine life. Did you know that the killer whale is actually part of the dolphin family?!

I really don't remember much about the old whale show we saw on our first visit but the new one is called Believe.
n20305212_33501857_70.jpg

Like the dolphin show, it was much more dramatic. The stadium has these big screens and they started off with a video about a young boy who loves whales and dreams of becoming a trainer (it's a little cheesy because they make it seem like the boy in the video is actually one of the trainers in the show). The video also shows the boy carving a whale fin out of wood and turning it into a necklace, which is somewhat significant later in the show. He then goes out into a boat on the ocean and sees a killer whale. Then the trainer comes out and basically gives a short speech about believing in your dreams. Like I said, kind of cheesy but cute. Then we finally got to see the whales. All I can say is AMAZING.

n20305212_33501860_1262.jpg

n20305212_33501861_1614.jpg

The whales got to show off their stuff for a few minutes. I seriously about lost it when they were "waving" to the crowd. It was SO CUTE!
n20305212_33501862_1945.jpg

But...we still hadn't seen the biggest whale star (and I mean biggest in more than one way!) yet. Before they brought him out, the trainers led the crowd in a Shamu chant which was kind of funny. Here he is!
n20305212_33501863_2732.jpg

n20305212_33501864_3161.jpg

Don't get me wrong, the other whales were big, but Shamu...WOW. He was massive!
n20305212_33501865_3524.jpg

Then Shamu got his chance to show off all by himself (ok, I keep saying "he"...is Shamu really a he? I don't even know! :confused3 ) Here's one of the trainers whale-surfing.
n20305212_33501866_3855.jpg

n20305212_33501867_4184.jpg

It was really hard to get decent pictures but this is my absolute favorite. How cool is that?!
n20305212_33501868_4530.jpg

n20305212_33501869_4930.jpg

OK, back to the necklace thing. What they did during the show was invite another little boy down and asked him what his dream was. He said that he dreamed of playing in the NFL. So one of the trainers gave him his very own whale fin necklace to remind him to believe in his dreams. I think they also helped him get one of the whales to do a trick.

It was another great show and amazing to see these huge animals doing all the tricks. Definitely a must-see!

great update and pics.

the pics are really beautiful.

Great Sea World updates & pics.
Loved hearing about all the shows and remembering how much I enjoyed them. We even ate at the same place as you. :rotfl:

The sea lion show is funny. I think they had several "mistakes" in the show we saw too.

I enjoyed your most recent updates and videos! I have never been to the other parks other than WDW, maybe someday we will venture "off grounds". Thanks for sharing all the of the great pics!

Hope your having a great summer!

Thanks...glad it brought back some memories from your trip.

Yeah, I kept wondering during the show how many of the mistakes were actual mistakes or if it was just part of the show. :confused3

I'm glad you enjoyed them! It's fun to see the other parks (we went to Universal/IOA in '05) but I'm still a Disney girl! :lovestruc

Thank you, my summer's been good even though it seems to be flying by! Hope you're enjoying yours too!

Hi again, everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday weekend. We had a combined graduation party/tailgate at the Brewers game on Friday, then went to our town's fireworks show (which was awesome!). Sunday we went to the Brewers game again since it was one of the games in our season tickets. And today Dad, Claire, and I went to see WALL-E. We all sort of had a different reaction...Dad said it was strange but that there were some cute scenes, Claire really liked it, and I am sort of in between. WALL-E is adorable though! :lovestruc

Now back to my TR...

More Sea World Fun
Once we had seen all the shows, we were ready to explore the rest of the cool exhibits Sea World had to offer. Our first stop was Wild Arctic. This is sort of a "ride"/walk-through exhibit. You can either choose to "fly" on a helicopter or walk. We chose to walk (I'm not exactly sure but I think the ride is sort of like a motion simulator type thing and well, seeing as I'm not exactly a fan of those rides...). The wait was also a little shorter for the walking version. First they show you a short video before you are able to see the animals. This exhibit featured beluga whales, walruses, and polar bears. I wasn't able to take too many pictures since it was pretty dark inside. We first came to a pool with beluga whales. They had an employee talking about belugas which was pretty interesting. She was saying how when the whales are first born they are gray in color but then they get their whitish color when they get older. After watching the whales for a bit we continued on the exhibit which had some underwater viewing locations. Here's the belugas from underwater:
n20305212_33501870_5273.jpg

I also took this short video of the walrus...it was huge!

On the way out of the exhibit we stopped in the giftshop where Dad bought us both a little pin (thanks, Dad!). It has polar bears on it and also our name. We decided to get one for Emma too as a little surprise. Since it was close by, we decided to check out the underwater viewing spot for the killer whales. I saw these performers right outside the Wild Arctic:
n20305212_33501871_5609.jpg

I'm not sure which of the whales we saw but it was so neat watching them under the water.
n20305212_33501872_5962.jpg

At one point one swam right up to the glass and was looking right at me...it was almost like it wanted me to take his picture! SO COOL!
n20305212_33501873_6301.jpg

I seriously could have watched the whales all day...they're such beautiful animals.
n20305212_33501874_6654.jpg

Here's a couple that Dad took of us:
100_5773.jpg

100_5775.jpg

After saying good-bye to the whales we went to see the Budweiser Clydesdale horses. I think they had about 6 horses there as well as a couple dalmatians. Every year at the Wisconsin State Fair they have some Bud horses too so Dad asked the lady there how many teams there are. She told us there's six teams of horses that travel around the country. The ones at our state fair usually come from St. Louis. They also had one of the horses out so you could take your picture by it.
n20305212_33510790_6630.jpg

The horse's name was Kelly and after we got our picture taken with him (yes, it was a male!) we got to pet him which was cool.

On the way out we spotted this little donkey. He looked so sad and lonely I had to take a picture by him...he was like a real life Eeyore! LOL.
n20305212_33501875_6989.jpg

Our next stop was the shark exhibit. Before you enter the building they have a couple pools with small sharks. But the main attraction is the huge walk-through tunnel where you're pretty much surrounded by different types of sharks.
n20305212_33501876_7338.jpg

Then we headed back toward the Penguin Encounter. This time the sun had risen so we got to see them in the light. :teeth: There were so many penguins and it was funny how some of them were standing there like they were taking guard of their environment.
n20305212_33501877_7675.jpg

We also stopped to see the puffins again for a little bit. Those were definitely one of Claire's favorites.

Next up were the manatees, or "sea cows".
n20305212_33510791_6959.jpg

They have an outdoor viewing location so you could see them from above the water and also an indoor portion.
n20305212_33501878_8050.jpg

It was getting pretty humid outside so going into the air conditioned building was a nice break from the heat. Inside we were able to see the manatees from underwater.
n20305212_33501879_8408.jpg

The manatees were so cute. It's really sad that they're so endangered. :sad1:

One of our final stops for the day was the dolphin cove. Again, we were able to see the animals from the underwater viewing spot and in the cove.
n20305212_33501880_8775.jpg

100_5782.jpg

We really wanted to see the dolphins up close so we made our way to the cove. At the cove you're able to stand right by to the pool and get up close and personal with the dolphins. It was really neat and we were hoping one would come close enough that we'd be able to pet it. Right as we got there a couple of the trainers went into the water to "play" with the dolphins.
n20305212_33501881_9141.jpg

Some of the dolphins came so close to us but unfortunately not close enough that we were able to pet them (well, atleast without falling in the water!)
n20305212_33501882_9512.jpg

I think they were more concerned with getting their fish!
n20305212_33501883_9877.jpg

Needless to say this was definitely one of my favorite experiences of the whole day. Being so close to the animals was amazing.

By this time we were getting tired and were ready for a break so the last thing we did was the stingray lagoon. They have a big pool filled with stingrays where you can feed and pet them. We didn't feed them but did pet them. They felt slimy and slippery! Sadly I have no pictures from this exhibit. :guilty:

On the way out we stopped in another giftshop where I picked up a Sea World souvenir book that I hope to add to my classroom library. Overall it was a really enjoyable day. We were able to see so many amazing animals. I loved it! If you have never been to Sea World, I recommend giving it a try some day. It's a great experience and hey, you might learn something along the way too. ;)

up next: Downtown Disney

great update and pics.

Sea World seems like a lot of fun.

Your Sea World day sounds great.

It's wonderful that you can see the animals so closely.

I will definitely have to do Sea World someday.

The Wild Arctic ride is a motion simulator and it's pretty rough. It's probably a good thing you chose not to go on it if you don't like them!

All of your Sea World pictures make me want to go! I am with you in thinking that the manatees are cute. We saw quite a few of them when we were in Punta Gorda this year, I didn't realize that they are so big!

Great photos at the underwater viewing area.
Sounds like a great meeting with the orca whales.

I love the manatees and the dolphin cove too!:goodvibes

HOW CUTE is that little boy with his Shamu plush in the picture with you and the orca tank?? it looks like he's trying to make it swim with the whale!!

Yeah, we had a great time even though it was pretty hot that day. I loved that you could get so close to the animals...somehow it makes you appreciated them more.

Oooh, then I definitely would not have liked it. I was just fine with the walking version. haha

Oh, you should try to go sometime! They have some great attractions/exhibits.
