WDW with a 7 month old?

Are we crazy to consider visiting WDW with a 7 month old? DH and I were tossing around next spring break- I'm currently pregnant and if everything goes according, the baby would be around 7 months- crazy? would love to hear your thoughts

Not crazy at all! Our first with-kids trip had a 2 month old and barely 3 year old. The barely 3 year old was so much harder. The baby hung out in the sling the whole time pretty much. We didn't do things quite as well as we had expected - as it was our first with-kids trip - so we went back six months later to use what we learned! When they were 8 months and 3.5 years old, the 8 month old was easier once again. One extra challenge was that the child was a picky napper, so I'm glad I had a stroller with full recline. She was in the sling the rest of the time. We had another trip with an 11 month old. (And 3.5 year old and 6 year old). That child would not nap in the stroller and was in the sling the entire time too. He also wouldn't nap back at the room, so he fell asleep when exhausted far, far past his normal nap time. But it worked. As usual - the 3 year old of the moment was more work than the baby.

I don't think you're crazy. We're going next week and our baby will be 7 months. We took #3 when he was 4 months old. I think the younger ones are easy....yes you have to deal with diapers and whatnot but you don't have to deal with tired, whiney, complaining, picking on each other older kids, lol. Our DS just nursed and hung out in the carrier the whole time. Have fun!

We took DS for the first time at 7 1/2 months. We just did one day at MK, went with low expectations on what we would do, and we ended up having an incredible time (rode a ton of rides with him). He got all excited getting his first Mickey ears (see my photo), and he was familiar with Mickey. Well, when we went to meet him, he was so funny. He recognized him and immediately started kicking his feet and waving his arms in excitement.

It was also very easy to spend time in the park with him. He was in the stroller most of the time, and a front-facing carrier really helped when in lines and on rides. It was easy to get on and off rides that way, and he was able to see everything facing forward. A backpack also worked better than our regular diaper bag. Also, when he napped, DH and I would do rider swap on the rides with height restrictions.

Not crazy at all- we took our twins at 10 months old but they were born three months early so basically 7 month olds- great trip!!

DD will be 8 months tomorrow but I would love to take her to DW right now. She's crawling but still content to hang out and people watch. She has the cutest reactions to stuff and we are all used to her now. We can pick up on her cues of when she needs something and we can all help her. I'm actually a little nervous about taking her at 10 months, in case she's a new walker and doesn't want to be in the carrier or stroller anymore.

Nope! We took DD at 3 months and again at 4 months, and she is about to go again at 6 months! She is way way easier to deal with in the parks than my 5 year old. lol

The baby care centers in the parks are great for nursing, changing, and just getting out of the hustle and bustle with the little ones for some downtime when needed. If you have a good, comfortable carrier and a stroller with a full or mostly full recline, it helps a lot!

You aren't crazy we took dd at 8 months old and had a great trip.

I would, however, recommend not making any reservations that aren't fully refundable before your child is born. I would wait to make any non refundable reservations until after the child is a month or 2 old..give yourselves some time to get to know your child's personality and see if you still want to undertake the trip then.

We were lucky in that our DD has always been pretty flexible. She travels well in the car, and does well with being away from home. We went to my best friend's wedding when she was 1 month. It was a good 5 hr drive from where we live. We split the drive in 1/2, stopping at my parents' house along the way. They joined us on the second half to watch dd while we were at the reception. Dd was great with the traveling.

Those same friends just had a baby over the summer..he's now 6 months old. He *hates* being in the car. They won't travel far with him because it's just too stressful right now, and I don't blame them.

Babies can be so different..there's just no way to predict how your child will be. So give yourself some time to find that out, and then make the non refundable reservations if you are confident you will a want to travel.

This is another great tip! We did the same thing and made sure everything we booked was fully refundable because we planned the trip before DD was even born. Had she been a more difficult baby than she is, we would have canceled the trip if needed.

We went when DS was 6 months old and it was just fine. He nursed, hung out in stroller or ergo and was generally a happy baby. I highly recommend taking a cloth high chair. something similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Washable-Squa...d=1453246142&sr=1-1&keywords=cloth+high+chair . They don't generally allow strollers in the sit down restaurants and so someone usually had to hold baby through the entire meal since he was ready for a normal high chair. That would be the only thing I would have changed about our trip.
