Hi! My fiance and I are trying to make a WDW Wishes wedding work with our budget and guest amount. I was wondering if someone would be able to share their food minimum guideline or help me understand some of the costs going toward that minimum? I have found online that for water and soda, it is about $20ish a person and that goes toward the minimum of $100 ($125, $150) per person for the reception. Does anyone have any input on food costs, cakes, etc.

There are basically 3 types of minimum expenditures for a Wishes event:

1) Overall expenditure of $10,000/$12,000/$15,000/$20,000, depending on when you hold your event

2) Food and beverage minimum of $100/$125/$150 per person over age 21, depending on the time of day of your event. All food and beverage served on the day of your event counts, whether it's a catered ladies' brunch, the wedding reception, or a dessert party. The cake also counts. Which means your reception meal doesn't have to cost the full $100/$125/$150 per person.

3) Venue-specific food and beverage minimums at certain locations that overlap the per-person food and beverage minimums. If your reception is in a ballroom, you don't have to worry about these. But if it's at, say, Atlantic Dance Hall, which has a $9,600 minimum for plated meals, you must spend at least that amount on food and beverage in that location alone. Which means that if you have only 64 guests, you WILL be spending $150/person on food and beverage for just the reception.

Drinks can either be paid for in packages, which cost a set amount per person for unlimited drinks, or bill-on-consumption, which means you pay an estimate up front but only actually end up paying for exactly what guests drink—you get a refund or a bill after the fact. Usually it's a refund.

...And don't forget service charges (21%) on all food and beverage, plus tax (6.5%) on the food, beverage AND service charges. Neither of these count toward your minimum expenditure, and they add thousands to the cost of a Wishes event.

Hope this helps! :thumbsup2

That helps a bunch actually! Thank you :) I am trying to find though what people normally would pay for water/soda, the entree's and cake costs. I can't seem to find what that would be typically for a cake slice per person or each persons food platter that goes towards that minimum.

I think for a wedding there is no "normal" everyone spends totally different amounts.

Check out the "Share your budget" Thread for some ideas.

Hey, so I think I am just not wording this correctly. What I mean is:

For example, a breakfast reception requires you to meet a $100 per person food minimum. Both entrees, cake, and beverage go towards this minimum.

I guess what I am trying to figure out is what do the entrees typically cost for a breakfast reception?

I have the idea down for the minimums, but I cannot find any sort of pricing for cakes and entrees per person.

Mine is $88. I altered the Tinkerbell Brunch Buffet that costs $75 standard. That's the most expensive of Disney's standard menus and it includes a prereception menu. The less expensive menus are around $60, if I remember correctly.

Ah, that's because everything is custom quoted. Disney does have sample menus they'll send you, and a new "build your own" menu that gives you swappable options at various price points, but if you want to customize at all, the catering team has to be consulted for a price.

For example, right now the cheapest sample brunch menu they send is something like $50/person, but our brunch only cost $32/person because we had fewer/cheaper menu items.

The same goes for cakes. Unless you pick an off-the-shelf design from their collection of sample cakes, which have a corresponding pricing sheet (see the first few pages of this thread), your cake price will be custom-quoted based on its size and the complexity of its design.

We have to minimize costs, so we're doing brunch. The catering menu examples say tea, coffee, juices, and ice water are included, so we won't have a separate bar. We plan to meet our $100/person minimum with just the brunch and a dessert party.

The first stages in planning with Disney are confusing, but once you start talking with the sales consultants, some of the fog clears...usually.

I cannot second this enough. If it wasn't for Carrie's book I'd have no hair left on my head.

Are there certain times for the brunch? Our wedding will be at noon with cocktail hour and reception to follow. I'm not overly impressed with the 'lunch' buffet options, but do like some of the brunch and dinner menus. Also, are the dinner lunch buffets available at lunch?

Brunch is for ceremonies before noon. However, you aren't constrained by the menus when you put together the food you want. You can pretty much have them make whatever you want them to make. You just have to spend the minimum food and beverage amount for the venue and for the day. So if you do a lunch reception, you can still use a brunch menu, but you still need to spend $125/person on food and beverage.

Just FYI...if you want to see all the sample menus, they are at this address.

I cannot find my last cake price list. The first stages in planning with Disney are confusing, but once you start talking with the sales consultants, some of the fog clears...usually. Hope you enjoy your planning. Good Luck!

If you find the cake price list, would you mind sharing it here?? I have seen the thread of all the pictures of peoples cakes, but of course like everything else, it's frightningly confusing on how they break down cake prices by $10-12 per person x_x

I cannot find it right now. I am pretty sure I saved a copy, but my house is torn apart right now, getting ready for Johnny to come home.
Anybody else out there who can help with a current cake price list? Please?

The cake pricing sheet is a PDF, so it can't be uploaded to the DIS. If you PM me your email address, I can send it to you.
