Before I go...I want to jump in on this whole Disney/Pixar family debate...

I agree with KP...LOVED her quote about parents wanting to be friends with their kids...what's up with that?

I grew up in the same generation as KP (or so it sounds like)...we had toy guns, Bambi's mom died, and video games where we shot and killed aliens to our hearts content (long live the Atari 2600 note: if you don't know what that is...look it up on-line...it's from the golden age of video games...)

Anyway...my point (and I do have one) is that Disney seems to get the most flak for this stuff...people...get a grip...Real life is not all sunshine and pixie dust...so excuuuusssseee us if we want to see some of the grit...if you don't like it...don't let your kids see it...there's plenty of other entertainment out there...

The point is...Disney makes movies for everyone...not just kids...that's how it's always been from when Walt was around...up to now...and it's not going to change...and there are a lot of us who are thankful for that....(and I haven't even seen Nemo yet..)

Now...I do have to ask one thing...is there something against mothers in these stories? It seems that for the most part...there are no mothers in these stories (Dumbo, Toy Story and Bambi are exceptions that spring to mind....and yes Simba had 2 parents)
But consider...
Aladdin...Jasmine...no mother...Aladdin...mother cut from script
Belle...no mom
Ariel...No mom
Sleeping Beauty...no mom
Pinocchio...no mom (unless you count the Blue Fairy)
Pochahontas...I believe was mom free (but I could be wrong)
Jane from Tarzan...nope...no mom there either
Cinderella...well there was a stepmom...but she was there to be evil
Nemo...Mom killed in the beginning of the movie...

I am just curious if anyone can come up with some examples of Disney movies where there is a family with both parents....or a single mother (with the execption of Andy's mom in Toy Story...I can't think of one)...
I'm not making a statement about families...I just want to know why it seems Disney movies are hostile enviornments to mothers...

And boy am I impressed with your Disney movie knowledge. The only movie I can think of where something happens to a father is Lion King. They do kill off Mufasa.

I can't remember how he came to live in the jungle, but I guess he can also be counted as parentless. Unless of course we count Bagheera and Baloo as parents.

As I remember Mowgli is an orphan....but don't get me started on the end of the Jungle Book...my wife still can't watch it without getting steamed about that girl who seems to exist simply to find a husband and serve him...oh well...I guess that was the attitude of the times...(and before I get into a debate here....let me say that I think it's a really outdated scene as well...)

Oh BTW...I have a computer rendering of the new WDWWDS resort executive pool and spa being constructed at our top secret headquarters on Discovery Island...

here it is...not sure who the woman in the bikini is though...

It should be opening soon...enjoy....
