Glad to "see" you MrsA. I understand the mourning that "Space City" is going through, it's probably very similiar to that going on here on the Space Coast. {{{HUGS}}} MrsA.

{{{{{Hugs}}}}} right back at you, Miss J. Thank you for putting that excerpt in your siggy.

Scholarship fund established
Copyright 2003 Houston Chronicle
KHOU-TV Channel 11 and the Houston Chronicle have established a Columbia Scholarship Fund to help pay for the education of the children of astronauts killed in the space shuttle tragedy. Five of the seven astronauts killed Saturday had children. An account has been established at Sterling Bank. Checks can be mailed to the Columbia Scholarship Fund in care of Sterling Bank, P.O. Box 40333, Houston, TX 77240-0333. Donations will be accepted at any Sterling Bank starting Monday.

Jay, Mrs. A and Jas glad that you all are ok ... or as ok as one can be after this incredible tragedy.

This weekend I was reminded of a quote from a favorite TV show of mine and I was able to find the whole thing online:

"See, in the last few years, we've stumbled. We've stumbled at the death of the president, the war, and on and on. And when you stumble a lot, you...you start looking at your feet. You know, we have to make people lift their eyes back to the horizon and see the line of ancestors behind us saying, "Make my life have meaning." And to our inheritors before us saying, "Create the world we will live in." We're not just...holding jobs and having dinner. We're in the process of building the future."

When things like this happen it makes me sad for two reasons - the terrible loss and the horrible thought that the Space program might go away. Too costly. Too dangerous. When people start thinking that strapping yourself to an organized explosion is routine, they start to forget the importance of what those explorers do. Is it too costly and too dangerous? Yes. But we must go.

Pass me some of that POC. I need a drink. Glad all our Texins are alright.

edit: oh yeah, that quote is from Babylon 5.

Good quote Kim...pretty fitting.

I wouldn't worry about the Space program going away though. I heard on the radio that they took a poll and like 80% of the people said that the program should continue. After the nay sayers die down, I'm sure that pioneering spirit and courage will still be as strong as ever. It's in our blood, so to speak. For us to pull away from the space program would be an insult to all those that dedicated and gave their lives to it.

Well to change the tone a bit, have any of you seen the whacko, conspiracy theorists who say that the lunar landings were a hoax carried out by the U.S. Gov with the help of the Disney Co.?? It's so outrageous it's actually a little funny. And people say that Disney lovers are nuts....

Last one... then I'll let it go...

I'll join OT in saying the Space Program is here to stay, although some of the community leaders here are already being negative. Really nice that they are more concerned about the money associated with the program rather than the people (sorry, vent over). I think with how fast NASA is already moving with its investigation and the support of the Administration (The President had already budget more money than NASA had asked for) is a clear indication that it will go on.

As for the consipiracy thoeries. I was sharing those with my MIL last night and we had a good laugh. :D

Just in case - I just cleaned my PM box.

Oh our local IMAX has been playing a Space Exploration movie and you couldn't even get close to the place yesterday. Looks like people are rallying as they should...you're not the only one AP.

Empty your PM box, by the way.

I am with all of you and think that space exploration should continue. Yes, it is extremely dangerous but NASA does it's best to minimize the risks.

I couldnt agree with you more Jas!

Back in the summer I saw an IMAX film called *Space Station* narrated by Tom Cruise - it was absolutely incredible!!! I can not imagine them *giving up* on the Space program after seeing SO much more to it then what we know about...

On a side note: not that it makes the situation any better but I was actually relieved that this happened on Columbia's way back to earth (at least these 7 people got to live out their dream) - The Challenger's crew never had that oppurtunity...

psst...does anyone have the link to story of the US gov and Disney?

Hey everyone...

I'm glad to hear all of out Texans are safe and sound...I have family in Plano...but they are all OK too...thank God!

Anyway...just wanted to let you know that the PG thread was shut down again for being over the page limit...a new thread has been started...here's the link

Parks Game Part 4

Thank you for the heads-up, Higgs!

Hey everyone. :) Hope you're all having a good day today.
Looks like I should look in my yard again. They say they've found shuttle debris as far west as Ft Worth, which is a bit south and west of me. :( Then again, it won't take long to look over my postage-stamp sized yard.

Higgs, my office is actually located in north Plano (near Frisco). Well, that is when I need to drive in.... :)

In a nutshell, I'll add my 2 cents and say they should keep going up to space. Thanks to NASA, there are tons of everyday innoventions, products and safety items that have been made possible. Especially a pen that writes upside down. :p Ok... j/k w/ that one, but we have all sorts of things to thank them for that have made life safer and easier. The exploration is necessary to keep us moving forward. It's not just a matter of seeing what's out there, it's something that can directly affect each of us on a daily basis.

yensid steps off the soapbox and wanders off for a drink of light, bubbly WL 1998 water from the bottom of the waterfall. Hey, the geyser water is good for making hot chocolate! :)
