wdw v dlrp

been to dlrp 3x wdw 2x

like for like on theming and rides paris wins every time. RNR, space mountain, btm, pirates, haunted mansion are all way more exiting and better themed at paris in my opinion. Wishes was also better before they replaced it at paris. Everything is more beautiful in paris.

However taking into account everything else on offer at and around wdw and prices wdw wins overall for us at the moment.

I totally agree with Rosie's descriptions of WDW/DLRP/DLR :goodvibes
DLRP was the first Disney park I ever visited and I think the main park is superior to MK in WDW but inferior to DLR. I love the small/walkable size, the park layouts, the pink castle (and dragon) and most of the rides but I find it poor value for money even with the recent package offers and the food prices are shocking, if I was could feasibly drive there I think i'd stock up first at a local supermarket! Have to say: I've experienced queue jumping and rude people in all 3 Disney parks i've visited, I think it's more noticeable in DLRP and DLR because they're smaller and seem to have less CMs per number of people (I could be wrong on this one, just what i've observed :confused3)

I've never been to DLP and as other's have said I also have no desire to, put off mainly from the reports that I have had from friends who have been and also the cost is just horrific!

It's nice that it's nearer home but still it's not the real Disney to me JMO though!

Totally agree. Thought we would do a quick trip this month (looked at it a couple of months back) to DLP, just DD(7) and myself. Without transport and park tickets, 3d/2n in a basic Disney hotel was sitting just under £1,000!!! That was "value season"!!! :confused3 I was hoping for a cheaper getaway since we did 16 days in WDW already this year and are going agin next year anyway. Sorry, but as Wayne said - it's the whole package -weather and variety. I would rather save that cash towards a luxury for our trip to WDW next year. After that last quote - and there have been several - I have shelved the idea of even looking into it. Personal opionion of course - everyone to his own!;)

DBF and I visit Disneyland Paris regularly and we love it. It's unfair to pit it against Walt Disney World- it's so much smaller, plus it's been open for less than 20 years, compared to almost 40 years of WDW.

As others have said, DLP is a weekend holiday and WDW is a full-blown no-expense-spared trip. We love them both and will continue visiting both as long as we still enjoy it.

Can I just request that everyone keeps the rude comments about the French to a minimum? I'd hate for anyone reading to be offended. :)

We think of Disneyland Paris as our 'first love', it wa the first holiday DW and I took together

It's the same for DBF and me. :)

See I prefer the layout in DLRP myself, prefer where Phantom Manor is and Pirates too :)

I love the Pirates area in DLP, I think they did a fantastic job with the theming. In WDW, it's just 'there'.

I thought everybody was honest and fair.
Where are the rude french comments? I must have missed them?
I thought we were all very good actually. Could have but didnt for the very reason you picked us up on.

I don't want to single anyone out but if you read through you'll see what I mean.

I'm just taking into consideration that there may well be French people on these boards who may not take too kindly to being generalised as rude.

Mickey is american not french!

Just out of interest, how do you feel about Japanese Mickey, or Chinese Mickey?

For the same reason I steer clear of 'xbox v playstation' threads on other forums, I'm out :lmao:

:goodvibes

Dont know. Ive never been what about you, you seem well travelled.:goodvibes

I just think that the original disney and mickey is " American"
I was not picking on france, china or japan. He must be multi lingual though, a mouse of many talents;)

surely by that logic you should think WDW is equally as worthless as DLRP and that Disneyland is the only real disney resort? :confused3

Disneyland Paris is very pretty and the walking distance hotels are a real bonus.

However, it does not even come close to WDW for the following reasons:

*Price - the cost of everything is out of the question - I know the Euro isn't helping us but it seriously detracts from the experience

*Guest rudeness - is unbelievable and NOTHING like WDW. Character scrums, crushes and queue jumping are the norm.

*Lack of variety - 2 parks and no option of a lazy day at the pool

*Queue times - the train ride never dropped below 45mins our whole stay and fastpasses are not available at all e-tickets and do not take you as far forward in the line

*Security is more lax - we watched a guest cut loose numerous bunches of helium filled balloons and allow the rude crowd to rugby scrum for them. No interest from CMs.

I liked the park but my DD hated it and has declined the option to go back for her birthday!!!!!!!!!

DLP pros

Closer to the UK
I can pop to Belgium on the way to get some cheap tobacco
The castle is prettier
Space Mountain is better
Both parks are smaller and more manageable
The hotels are within walking distance to the parks

DLP cons

Weather
No water park(s)
Both parks can get very crowded
Crowd control isn't as organised as WDW
Not as many fireworks as WDW
Cost

WDW pros

Weather
Service from CM's
Different rides
More to do
Water parks

WDW cons

It's a long way away
Cost of holidays
American immigration
The time it takes to get to the park from your car
Heat and humidity

I was very anti DLRP after my first visit.

We took advantage of some good prices on Disney accommodation but regretted it as it was very very basic.

Having now been back for a week in the summer staying at the Marriott villa resort 5 minutes away, it's changed my whole perspective. Yes it's £130 per night but you get a two bed villa and space, luxury, tranquility etc. That brings the whole experience a lot closer to WDW.

My heart will always be in WDW but we're back at DLRP for Christmas week (including the day itself) so it's not to be avoided by any means! Knowing we're back to WDW for 3 weeks in May is a softener though.

My complaints about DLRP boil down to service, Counter Service restaurants are run appallingly to the point that people who want to spend money are walking away due to excessive queuing and stupid things like closing queues with no explanation when people have waited thirty minutes already. You DO NOT WAIT 30 MINUTES for food in WDW. Maybe it's a culture thing but Disney is an American franchise, their standards need to be stamped on the other parks.

Secondly, Paris needs to sort out queuing and smoking. Both go to make a busy small park a distinctly un-magical place to be. It wouldn't take much, just do it Disney. For every Central European you lose, you'd gain a Brit or Northern European where blowing smoke and ash over children is not acceptable!

I lived in France for a year and my parents still do and they just aren't like that on the whole. We used to love Paris and never found people particularly rude. There is something about the people that go to DLRP though...

I NEVER said it was worthless.
I enjoyed both Disney land and disney world equally they are both American.
It is the American experiance I prefer.

But getting back to the point.
I agree with howlongtillsummer

The euro and dollar rate is worth taking into consideration thats for sure
ANy way, I hope the op has all the answers they need, gonna drop out now as I seem to be detracting from the original question.

I only asked your opinion about Japanese/Chinese Mickey because you said that he is American and not French. As for my opinion, I haven't visited Tokyo or Hong Kong (yet :goodvibes) but I fully embrace the idea of a multilingual mouse and a multicultural Disney experience.

london75, I agree with what you said about smoking at Disneyland Paris. It's certainly nice to see guests sticking to the designated smoking zones at WDW!
