My dad took a huge chunk of money out of my checking acct to go to my annual Roth IRA. The money he took out turned out to be more than I had anticipated as he wanted to put the maximum amt in. I am pretty upset about this because he pretty much took out all of the money that I was gonna use to take my friend to WDW and UO in May.

He said he would cover the trip for me but I may have to cut down on expenses. Originally it was to be a WDW and UO trip. Do you think I should drop UO and save it for maybe a possible trip in 2014? Because the original plan was to try and do UO in one day while staying at Disney. I am thinking maybe do WDW this year and then maybe next year do a short multiday trip to UO. What are your thoughts?

Are there other areas of your trip that you can scale back on? Perhaps switching to a value if you were planning moderate, dropping the park hopper option on park tickets if you had it, that type of thing? Were you planning on renting a car? If not, you'd also have to factor in the cost of getting to and from Universal.

If you were only planning to go to Universal for one day and not stay onsite, I would probably say skip it this trip and do it next time. I think Universal is definitely worth doing, but you probably won't be able to do it justice in just one day and the added expense/aggravation getting to and from might not be worth it.

I agree with the above poster. Skip it this year, it may not be worth the hassle of getting there and back, if you don't have a car. You didn't say how many times you've been to WDW, but with the four parks there is tons to do. Maybe you could check out and stay at a hotel near Univeral for a night, if you have a car. Are you paying for the entire trip? The bright side, you save on taxes with your ROTH and you have put money aside, very good planning.

Well, if you are a Harry Potter fan, the HP expansion is targeted for completion in 2014 so waiting to do UO/IOA might not be a bad thing. :confused3

Originally the plan was to hit a few of the major attractions at UO (The Simpsons, Harry Potter). But given the advice on here and due to the fact that I will not have the money in time to do the Disney Spring Sale, I will have to do some even major scalebacks. So yes, I may take UO out of the equation altogether and hold it off for maybe next year as a minitrip.

It was already part of the original plan to stay in a Value Resort btw and use DME since we will have no car. I should've mentioned those things in my original post.

If you were only going to go for one day, skip it, add one extra day at wdw, and save on the tickets. Do Universal another year.

Under the circumstances you've described I would definitely cancel the universal day. Especially since you'll be able to do it next year.
