WDW to HHI - how long?

We are going to HHI for the 1st time in August we check in on a Sunday.

Even though we said we weren't going to do WDW this year, the idea of being within 5-6 hours is just too tempting. We are thinking of leaving on Thursday night (we live in NJ) and driving to WDW arriving later Friday. We would then stay Fri & Sat night in disney then drive to Hilton Head mid-day Sunday. Is this nuts?

Exactly how long is the drive HHI from WDW?

I would recommend leaving WDW early am for HHI so you can get a full day in at DVC HHI resort if that is where you are planning to stay overnight; there is so much to do and explore and arriving there late afternoon will really limit you. Definitely figure the drive to be 5 hours. In our experiences around 5 hours (sometimes 15-20 minutes less or more) and usually that was leaving WDW on a Saturday or Sunday around 7am. Later on in day whether a weekend day or weekday you're probably looking at more like 6 hours. I4 tends to be where we find more traffic slow-downs than I95; you can check for road construction info etc. on a site called Drive I95 ( I think this is what site is called ).

DVC's HHI resort is great, our family really enjoys stopping over there on our drives to/from NYC area & WDW.

It's not nuts at all! We do this all the time - well, actually, we take 2 1/2 days out of the middle of our HH stay and drive to WDW (because being that close when you live a 13-hour drive away normally is just too tempting, as you said).

Sunday is a great day to make the drive. No construction going on and lighter traffic.

Thanks guys! I called DVC yesterday and they do have studios available at VWL, BWV, SSR & OKW for the Friday & Saturday night. It's like it's meant to be. But I do feel like I'm complicating things. We planned a simple HHI trip and now I've clapped it all up. But it will be so much fun!
