WDW to City Walk

I would love to check out Universal's City Walk (this is by Univeral studios, am I right?) will I am at WDW. We will not have a car while we are staying at Disney. What is the best (and cheapest) way for me to get there. I have never been to Flordia before and will not know the streets. I have no plan to go into the park it self.

I know about public transport. Which bus(es) do I take if I decide on this route? Where do I catch the bus(es)? Would I be able to ask the bus driver for help? How later do the buses run? I am staying at POP and plan on going to Animal Kingdom for part of the day.

Would it be easier to take a taxi. If so, around how much would it cost? Where would be the best spot for it to pick me up? I am leaving Jan 4th (can't wait) for my trip and plan to go Monday.

Thank you in advance for any tips. Sorry about all the questions. I just want to be ready and not get lost.:)

Welcome to the DIS!!

I think taxi is your best bet just to save the hassle. If you take the bus, you'd have to go to the Ticket and Transportation Center near MK just to find a Lynx bus (local bus system) and keep the schedule in mind, etc. With a taxi you can come and go as you want.

I was kind of leaning towards the taxi, since I don't know Orlando much. Which taxi firm would be best? Are there taxis at the parks that wait for people to come to them (like at airports)? Where would be the best spot to get the taxi. I would like to get one from AK if I can, but am willing to go back to POP if I have to. I have heard about Mears. Are they the best ones to get? How much would it cost for one person? Do they take credit cards or Canadian bank debit cards? I would like to pay that way, if at all possible, to save on the amount of cash I need on hand.

Thank you for your help.:)

A Taxi would be your best bet. Mears only runs from the resorts and doesn't run TO Universal in the afternoon/evening. They also only run BACK to Disney about 2 hours after the main parks close. They don't make runs for folks wishing to stay late at City Walk.

There are taxi waiting areas at each park. You should have no trouble getting a cab from Animal Kingdom. Whether you can use credit/debit card, I have no idea. I have always paid cabbies in cash.

I would not know what time I would be leaving Citywalk. I plan to check a few things out while I am there. Which taxi company would be the best (and cheapest) for getting back to POP, or would buses be better?

Lynx buses would be WORST. "Between" Disney and Universal, you need to transfer to a different bus in downtown Orldando - several miles north of your northernmost destination.

While it's been a while since I've used Mears, as far as I know they DO operate shuttles from Universal to Disney until CityWalk closes. It's $16 round trip; I don't know about one way return only, but see www.mearstransportation.com for more information.

For taxis - make sure the taxi has and uses a meter, and that it's reset when your trip starts. Mears has the monopoly here, too - Yellow Cab, Checker Cab and one other are owned by Mears. That information is available at their website, too. And for the cost, there's a taxi fare estimator in the Popular Transportation Links sticky near the top of this forum.

If you return to the place where you are dropped off at CityWalk, there is a taxi stand where only Universal-approved taxis can pull up to. They should give you a fair deal.

Of course, you could skip the excursion and spend more time at DTD! ;)
