Is there a standard time of year for ticket price increases? Planning a trip 12/12 -- does it make sense to purchase tickets ahead of time to save a little? There is no timer on them until after the first use - correct?

Thanks!

Since 2006 it was always the first Sunday in August. This year it was June 12th.

Correct, the clock doesn't start ticking until first use.

It makes the most sense to start buying tickets, even one at a time, as soon as you have 'spare' money.

If you are certain that you are either staying offsite or booking room only, it makes sense to buy tickets in advance, preferably through a discounter like Undercover Tourist.

If you might want the dining plan or might want to book a package to take advantage of a discount (Free Dining; kids play and stay free; buy 4 night, get three free; etc.), you might want to wait. Sometimes Disney releases room only discounts that do not require a ticket purchase, but some discounts require that you purchase at least two day tickets for everyone in your group. If you want the dining plan, you have to buy tickets unless you are staying on DVC points or have an AP. While the package tickets could be saved for another trip (they don't expire if you don't use them), you might end up spending more money in the short term, even though you would end up with some tickets you could save for the next trip.

Thanks! I had thought it was August but I guess they could do it whenever. Will buy as we go I guess!

If they do announce an increase, you sometimes have a few days to buy tickets at the old price from Undercover Tourist. I also know someone who was able to buy them at AAA at the old price a week after the increase.

Normally Ticket Price increases always go into effect on a Sunday. The earliest Disney will usually announce the increases is late on a Friday afternoon.

The only people who know in advance are some managers and high level people, the programmers for the ticketing computers, and the people who make signs and printed materials.

Often many of us who sell tickets find out when we come in and find that the prices on our terminals are changed, and the sheets we have in the booths to show Guests their choices are new.
