Again see my comment in the other thread. You would be accurate to state because of the coronavius pandemic but not because of COVID-19 itself. Least there's nothing to support it.
Of course other people's health is important. If you are in an area that cases are low and your park is open then yes go support it. If my local park was open I would feel safe going as our cases have been in single digits for a few weeks. If I was in Florida no I wouldn't feel safe going to any park. That's what I was trying to say.

Since you live in Kansas I would be fine going to World's of Fun right now but would not feel safe going to Universal or Disney

Funny because our numbers are up...though we're trying to mitigate it. Are they anywhere near FL's situation? No but for our area it represents concern in terms of spread rate though our hospitalization and death rates are not near what is going on in other states as in they are not sharply increasing.

The thing is you pick and choose what you mean depending on what someone says. I don't feel unsafe in my area even with the sharp increase in cases but nor do I feel like going to the amusement park or any place like that. There's a disconnect in the way you comment by which multiple posters have pointed out to you. I can appreciate that you use risk evaluation now in your way of thinking though. I don't want to rehash this all respectfully :)

You're correct I live in KS (Kansas) but WOF (Worlds of Fun) is in MO (Missouri). WOF is in my metro (which has over 2.1million throughout).

You missed one: indoor vs. outdoor. Contact tracing is telling us that the setting is perhaps the single most important factor. That's why we haven't seen upticks from the much-publicized crowded beaches and pool parties or from either set of protests, but have seen outbreaks tied to bars, restaurants and house parties.
Great news!

We can immediately start having outdoor music concerts and fans and spectators at pro baseball, football and soccer games!

We probably could, particularly with masks and distancing. But it would require the cooperation of a whole lot of people who mostly don't seem to want to risk it.

You're focused on the audience safety like sports and concerts are a product, not a show put on by groups of people who are inevitably exposed to one another in confined spaces in the course of entertaining the fans. But that's not how it is. Pay attention to what is happening with attempts to restart pro and college sports right now. Many of the *players* don't want to be there, because they aren't outdoors the whole time and can't distance in locker rooms and dugouts and because they have to travel for events which carries a number of exposure risks beyond the game itself and because once they do so they can't safely go home to see their families. College athletes back on campus for workouts are testing positive. So are pros. That's 100% unnecessary spread. As are any cases that would result from contact between fans in stadium bars and overcrowded restrooms and packed restaurants in and around the venues. And, like with the airlines and many restaurants, there is limited interest in reopening at anything less than full capacity because of the operating costs involved.

Here's the thing for *me personally.* If I were to go to WDW while the virus is still raging, that means I have to put my trust in other people for my own health. I have to trust a few thousand complete strangers to tell the truth and to follow the rules to my *own* standards. Being in America, I've seen far too many people be far too cavalier for my liking. I'm not that trusting. So, for *me personally,* I'll be staying home until I think it's safe to go.

Internationally these are commonly recognized for highest transmission risk, potential impacts are compounded when combined:
  • not wearing masks in close proximity
  • indoors with less air circulation
  • prolonged exposure
  • loud conversations, singing or chanting
  • large gatherings
In general I think protests were helped by a combination of advantages: heavy mask compliance, fresh air and often involved movement or spacing. Most bars, stadiums or arenas are expected to have unmasked people staying next to each other for extended periods of time with lots of shouting, and many will be indoors.

Different circumstances.

DeSantis just shut this down. WDW will open.

“The theme parks have been doing great. We have to have society function… in a way that can keep people safe. Disney, I have no doubt is going to be a safe environment. I have looked at Disney’s plan and it is very, very thorough.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis

The Florida governor is right. And anyone who is afraid should stay home and not go anywhere on vacation, holiday, etc. Everyone has the freedom to make their own choices on this matter. What works for one family will not necessarily work for another family.

What I don't understand is why everyone is worked up over WDW reopening yet there isn't a similar uproar over all of the other Orlando theme parks reopening.

Probably more concern now because WDW will likely be opening while case rates are rising on a sharp incline and FL has around 100k new infections or more. It's horrible that WDW has to deal with this bad timing. This last week has been especially unkind and it probably won't get better this week after all the July 4th gatherings.

When Uni opened, FL seemed to be managing OK and not out of control. There wasn't a massive amount of fresh cases and rates increasing at alarming rates.

Not entirely true, because to give people the choice and to make vacationing in Florida possible and have money coming in, a lot of FL people who might not be comfortable have to go to work in these circumstances.

Again, because someone's choice to go affects the people in the area where they live.
I hate that Universal is open and they should close immediately. It is a Disney board. I don't think ANY amusement parks should be open. Period.

You could compare this to any non essential business. Back when people were angry they couldn’t get a haircut you would hear others say it should be up to them if they want to take the risk. They didn’t give any thought to the workers. My niece is a hair stylist. Many did not want to touch people or have to get face to face, mask or no mask. But so many just think about themselves and their own risk.

Well, we'll see how this goes. Miami is shutting down again starting tomorrow. If Orange County begins to reach ICU, hospital bed capacity, they'll have to shut down as well. The military is sending 1,000 medical personnel troops to Texas because they're overwhelmed down there. Anyone heading to Florida needs to really think about taking that trip. If you're younger, with no pre-existing conditions that you know of, *but* are overweight....really consider not going. Those are the people that are really ending up in those hospital beds now.

You make it sound like this is going to be permanent.
Not permanent, but it will take at least 4-5 years to get back to pre-Covid normal and I may be too optimistic. So people need to find other ways of making a living

What I predicted is indeed coming to pass when people said you cannot leave it locked down. People must live. We have had several restaurants close again because employees are positive. Our city pool just closed because 2 life guards are positive. Daycares have had to close. This will be our world until a vaccine or treatment. Close, open, close, open. And since the disease sometimes lasts weeks or months, essential employees being out could cripple the business.

So even opening does not mean life will be normal while the virus rages. Also, immunity doesn't seem to be lasting, which is really, really upsetting to me. But the latest study in Spain just confirms what others say.

All that to say, Disney can open but CM 's will get it at MK, so that will close for a week, then AK a few weeks later, etc. That will not make people feel confident. Numbers going will be too low to sustain.

That is life with the virus until it is gone. Our economy will have to change because of it.

So today FL has reached another milestone in that many hospitals ICU departments have 0 beds available.

So, if today isn't enough to force another shut down the only milestone remaining really will be when the mass graves are needed and bodies start piling up in the streets.

Wdw should cancel reopening. Universal should not open today. The governor needs to act, or quit.

Universal probably didn't bring many people into FL from out of state who then took the virus home with them.

Wdw is gonn bring 10s of thousands in from out of state who may then take the virus home with them.

Lets also consider the many CM's who have NO CHOICE in the decision. .they either return to work to make ends meet or resign and lose their unemployment benefits. It is my understanding IF you have been on furlough and you are told by your employer to return, you must return. even .if you have a pre existing health conditions or you are in the high risk age group, unemployment will cut your benefits if you do not accept the offer to return.
SAD for the many CM's who are faced with this decision.:sad1:

Disney apparently offered CMs the option to remain on furlough although presumably that had a time limit on it of some kind and maybe other conditions

So let me ask you this. Since Orlando is not in the situation Miami is in. Given the choice between 100% that the Walt Disney World Corp will go bankrupt or have WDW stay open, which would you choose, with social distancing?

Even if disney entered into some form of bankruptcy (unlikely) it would likely be rescued.

More likely they would be receive a bailout long before bankruptcy though.

So, in my opinion they should stay closed for now. I'm not saying stay closed for entire 2020, it should be reviewed weekly, but right now FL should be shutting down rather than opening up.
