We plan on flying in the day before the cruise and renting a van. We are going to stop at Downtown Disney on the way to Port Canaveral where we plan to spend the night. We will have all of our luggage in the van and I am wondering if it will be safe in the parking lot at DTD. Is there security? Is there problems with cars being broken into?

There is security that drives around the parking lot, but we aren't talking about For Knox, just your typical parking lot security. I haven't heard of cars being broken into though. The parking lot is huge and well lit, just try to park in a busy section, and not in one of the back areas where there is less traffic. But it's your call, WDW won't be responsible in the rare chance something is taken.

We were at WDW last year (stayed at DVC-WL) and went to play miniature golf at the Winter-Summer course one evening. We were playing about 1 1/2 hours and when we returned we found that our car along with several others had been broken in to. Although Disney security came and were very nice, they did say that this type of incident was NOT rare so I would recommend that you take this into consideration. Having your luggage stolen would definately ruin your day. By the way Disney said that they were not responsible for any loss that we incured.

if it were me, I would not be leaving anything in the car!
