Is there some unwritten rule about where at WDW CC members are supposed to stay or something? We just took our first DCL cruise this year and are thinking about going to WDW next year. Just had a lunchtime conversation about Disney vacations with coworkers. I mentioned we were thinking of staying at Coronado Springs or Port Orleans, and got the comment - "People that take Disney cruises don't stay in those types of resorts, they usually stay at the Yacht Club or Grand Floridian" and said in a snobby way I might add. Is there really some unwritten rule like that I don't know about? Like taking a DCL is supposed to turn you into a snob or something

Nothing that I have ever heard of. I say stay wherever you want, it is your vacation.

LOL...... I have taken 13 DCL cruises and I am staying at Port Orleans next month, 99% of the time we stay moderate and I'm very happy with it.
Nope not one bit a snob and I LOVE my cruises.

Plan your vacation your way, it only matters what pleases you and your family.

Of course not!!! While I love me some Poly or Beach Club, we usually always stay pre or post cruise at Coronado Springs or POFQ. I like those moderates.

I really like the Coronado Springs Business Class rooms which include a special lounge, dedicated building close to El Centro, comp continental breakfast and from 5-10 at night comp beer, wine or sangria plus snacks!!

Now, when DCL had an offical land/sea program in the very beginning (7 day vacay. 3 or 4 night cruise paired with 3 or 4 night WDW pay one price) they would match your WDW resort to your cabin level. Most expensive cabins would be placed in Deluxe resorts, Mid price cabins in moderates and least expensive cabins in value resorts.

There is no unwritten law about where you should stay. That is just ridiculous. Stay whereever you want!!!

Nope - no unwritten rule about that. Ignore those people.

I'm just laughing at this bc we took 3 DCL cruises before ever taking our kids to WDW, and guess where we stayed when we finally went (bc we missed DCL so much )..... Yep, YC! :rotfl2:

Every time we stayed at WDW resort prior to a DCL cruise, we stayed at Port Orleans (twice) and Coronado Springs (once). I've never heard that we're "supposed" to be at the Yacht Club or the Grand Floridian.

Well, maybe that's where the coworkers' thought process came from? Maybe they cruised DCL a long time ago?

I'm glad cruisers aren't "matched" with hotels any more -- it's so much better to choose your own. When our extended family took a DCL Caribbean cruise we stayed at POR before the cruise. Some family members couldn't get to Florida early enough to do the parks so they stayed at Port Canaveral. After the cruise some family members stayed at WDW for two more days -- at the AKL.

While I consider my "Disney home" to be CBR, for my August cruise I'm splurging and staying in a Value Studio at AKL the night before my cruise. My thinking is Boma will be a nice breakfast to have before leaving for the ship - and that amazing lobby will be a good place to hang out waiting for my bus! :) But I will have no issues returning to CBR for future trips!!

(I've gone back and forth about it, but my dad finally said "You're saying this is your birthday trip for this year, so TREAT YOURSELF and leave the reservation as-is!!" :rotfl2: He knows me too well.)

eta: I'm doing the Studio because even though odds of it being ready when I get there around 11 are slim to none (I know how the DVC ones operate), it is LESS than a standard view (forget pool view or savannah view) room at AKL for the same night. Now... SHOULD a discount come out for the standard view rooms that drops the price, I will be all over that. But for now, Value Studio it is.

Pretty funny response from your co-worker....
Please you can stay any where you want.

Stick with your value studio! The "value" part of a value studio is not due to the view, but the size. Value studios are smaller than the other studios. I believe they are 3 feet shorter in length than the other studios. You could end up with a savanna or pool view with a value studio. So, if the size doesn't bother you, I'd stick with the value studio.

You don't even need to go to WDW. I stayed at Country Inn and Suites in Port Canaveral my last cruise from Florida. No one cares. Except that co worker, I guess.

Well, I stayed at CR before the only land/sea I have been on. My sister-in-law is staying at AoA for hers next year, so I don't see any unwritten rule. I especially think Paula's comment sums it up quite well, really has zero bearing. Has this coworker been on a Disney cruise? If not, then they are just making broad assumptions based on the cost of a DCL. If so, then I suppose they are just assuming their taste is how everyone should be.

Regardless, stay where you want and enjoy yourself without feeling like you are somehow doing it wrong.

We just did a split stay at the Poly/AKL. I booked a standard view room through a good deal on Orbitz for 2nd half. We drove over before going to parks on check-in day. Got there around 9:30 and just wanted to check in so it would switch magic band charging over to that room. We didn't expect room to be ready. She said she had 2 rooms ready, showed me a map and said "how's this?". I didn't think much of it because I wasn't familiar with AKL and I wasn't expecting a room to be ready that early. Upon getting to the room I realized that what she had done was upgrade us to a savannah view room. So, sometime getting there early can have it's advantages.

... I say stay wherever you want, it is your vacation.

What I tell people is:
Whoever pays the piper calls the music. :rockband: :charac2: :mic: :music:
If your co-worker wants you to go on a vacation and they are willing to pay for it, go and have a great time on them. If you are paying for the trip you go where and when you choose to go.
