WDW Rash on arms

My mother-in-law will be Going with me to WDW this fall and is allergic to shellfish. Are these soaps really bad for people with said allergies? Seems weird to me, but I'm not allergic. Please advise. :confused3

I have a shellfish & iodine allergy and can use H2O soaps with no problem, so they may not be related in the prior poster's case.:thumbsup2

I used to get the same thing after day 2 or 3 at any warm weather vacation location. It was always on the backs of my hands, arms and back of my legs. Unfortunately I am very pale and my skin does not tan (without sunblock its burn, peel, repeat). One year at WDW the rash was so bad on the back of my legs it didn't just turn red, it was a deep purple for about 24 hours.

I eliminated soaps (I bring my own) or sun screens as the cause. My doctor says its the sunlight causing the allergic reaction. I did find that taking 24 hour Zyrtec (the generic form) in the morning seems to help a lot. Now, if the rash starts its on day 6 or departure day and it never gets bad, just a little prickly feeling. Also, I will wear jeans if its not too hot and I try to stick to shaded areas when walking around.

I get a rash everytime I go! Mine is on my hands usually and I have learned that its the soap in the bathrooms of the theme parks!

You may have what I get every year, a reaction to the sun when your skin is first really heavily exposed. If I don't wear a lot of sunscreen or forget to reapply it, my skin is red, itchy, and sometimes bumpy. There is a name for it, but I can't remember what it is. After a week or so, my skin is ok and I can be out in the sun.

I got the arm rash once in Disney World. The rash was definitely sun related. It always itched more if I was in the sun. I felt like a vampire and only wanted to go out when the sun went down. It just happened on one trip and I think it might have been related to antibiotics that I had been taking before the trip. My rash was not red but my skin was bumpy and itched like crazy.

I had this on our last trip and it lasted for weeks! It drove me nuts. :headache:

I chalked it up to the sand in the pool at the Beach Club. I've never had that sort of reaction to the sun before, but perhaps that's what it was??

I'm sorry to read about the Disney rash, but I'm glad to have the information -my son and I BOTH have sensitive skin, so I'll remember to bring our own shower stuff. He has to use sensitive skin sunscreen, especially when he's swimming a lot because it gives him a rash.

I can't remember who it was that said that clinique gives them a rash - ME TOO!! I thought I was crazy, but that was the only thing I could come up with that made my face break out. It was even worse when I was out in the heat for a longer time.

OP - I hope you get it figured out! But for anyone looking for a good sun rash remedy, Neutrogena makes a great one with aloe in it. I can't remember the name, because my MIL gave it to me when I had heat rash after a day at the beach a few years ago. It was fabulous, though.

I am allerigic to nearly all kinds of sun screen and aloe, so I have to be really, really careful when in the sun (and I like being outdoors, a lot).

Nike, Reebok and several others make light-weight, breathable and with sun protection shirts and pants. I've also found some at LL Bean. Many of these are long-sleeve and they are not to hot for me. Check the work out sections of Kohl's, Carson's, Penny's and LL Bean, believe or not. Actully, LL Bean has the highest quality of these types of clothes, but they are also the most expensive.

The shirts are soft, comfy and breathe, even the long-sleeve ones. And to avoid jeans in 90 degree weather, I've found cargo type, or khaki type, or something nylonly (is that a word) but they are, like the shirt, designed for hot weather and provide the sun protection I need. Some even have swim linings in them so you can use them at the pool or on water rides.

I'll grant you that some of these clothes are not cheap, but when I can enjoy the summer weather and not get burns or rashes, I accept the cost. Sure is better than even 10 years ago when none of these sun-protection type clothes were even thought of.

And I don't care how I look, I'm protected from the sun and me and DW have a great time.
