as i make a touring plan for our toddler (she'll be 2 yr. 10 mo for our late jan. trip), i'm wondering about the playgroundsin the theme parks. we'll do rides & shows then i'd like to check out the Mk Treehouse, Donald's boat, & the Honey movie set in MGM. i read that the Treehouse might not be a good idea at her age b/c of the climbing, etc b/c it'll hold up others in line & we'd end up carrying her. is donald's boat & the Honey movie set appropriate for her age? she does very well on playscapes in parks, etc. if i can see these exhibits from the ground, then we'll make up our minds then but w/ the Treehouse - i just don't want to get stuck in the middle of it w/ a struggling & probably frustrated toddler. any advice?

She might not appreciate the Treehouse. I know my kids (6 and 4) were bored with it.

I think she might like the play area at Mission Space. There is a little play area with some tunnels and foam area. The fountains will also delight her.

One thing about the play areas like Honey is that they can be extremely crowded with kids that are bigger than she is and she could get pushed around.

One place that is nice and specifically for toddlers is the play area in toontown next to the train station. It has a little slide, a little house and it's for kids under 6 only! Very nice and usually not that crowded.

And, there is only one way in or out. My son has loved that little playground in the past, and it was a great way for him to get out of the stroller and run around a bit. There is a similar playground near the exit of Splash Mountain, as well.

the treehouse isn't a playarea, just a long hot climb through a tree - I wouldn't waste your time to be honest.

the fountains at epcot are brilliant = bring spare clothes they will get wet

If you go to Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground, keep a CLOSE eye on her. We were there when my DD was 3 and just turned away for a second and lost her. Lots of tunnels and places to lose the kids. Just a warning because that was so SCARY!

My younger son will be 2 yrs and 11mo when we go in June and I was wondering the same thing! So thank you for the post! I had heard once that there was a nice playground near Splash Mt, but hadn't confirmed it. So thanks again!

Under the train station by Splash mountain there is a little play area. It's called the Laughing place and it looks like a house made from a tree stump. It has a little slide and perfect for a toddler to run around in while waiting for the grown-ups to ride Splash.

My toddlers loved climbing and running around these places:

MK
Donald's Boat
Little playground straight across from Donald's Boat
Minnie's House (great photo opps!)
Tom Sawyer Island (a whole island to run and explore, with caves and forts, too)

AK
The Bone Yard
Both animal walking trails
Affection Section at Rafiki's Planet Watch (petting zoo)

MGM
Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground

EPCOT
the Viking Ship in Norway
the hedge maze in England

The tree house you are talking about is The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. It was a childhood favorite of mine (I was probably 9 or 10 on a trip that I just thought it was amazing!). Last trip my kids were 4, 2, and 10 months -- and we skipped this. Although I am dying to see it again, we will probably sip it again this trip (the kids are now 6, 4, and 2 1/2). I think they might enjoy it, but basically it is climbing a huge amount of stairs. If I were you, I'd probably skip it.

True the Honey I Shrunk the Kids and the Bone Yard require closer supervision, but you'll have tons of fun there! My little ones love the shows and rides, but these places give them alittle freedom to run around and are great to mix in between the other stuff.

Hope that helps. Enjoy!

Recent threads said that the boneyard was closed for renovations and shrunk was damaged by hurricanes.
