WDW Old Schoolers ... Remember When? - "If You Had Wings"

Count me in as another who LOVED this ride! We used to ride it over and over as well, partly because it was "free" and partly because the line was never really long and moved fast and was cold! (we would always go in August). My brother just sent me a DVD documentary about this ride that also has a ride-through (I think, haven't watched it yet!). One of the reasons I loved the Mexico boat ride so much (before the refurb), is because it reminded me of If you Had Wings! Now, we sorely miss that too!

I remember it well! - from back when Eastern was the official airline of Disney World. It was one of my favorites! I still hear the music in my head when I walk by Buzz.

Road it repeatedly in 1972. Had to save the tickets to go through the Haunted Mansion after dark.

If you listen to the Music on the TTA, you can hear the "If You Had Wings" theme playing....sometimes.

I remember that. I miss it so much. I was really upset when it closed. Everytime I go on Buzz I remember it.

I remember it and vowed to ride it every time we went to WDW. My favorite part was going through the long tunnel and you felt like you were flying. Now every time we ride Buzz and hit that tunnel, that song pops into my head!

This was my father's favorite ride of all time! He was afraid of just about everything else, so we would go on it again and again and again and again. That song has been permanently etched in my mind forever! The audio can be found in the link above. I just played it for my dad!

The strangest thing about the ride was that it seemed "old" yet "cutting edge" at the same time. I say old because some of the props were cheesy and the photos/videos were never updated. By the mid 1980's, it was weird to see people in their 70's clothing. Yet I was always freaked out by the videos that really made me think that the people were dancing and singing right next to me. If I recall, the characters would jump from one screen to the next. I loved it!

Agree totally with so many of the posts here. My brother and I rode it repeatedly. We visited WDW with our dad in the late 70s. We loved the part where it seems like you're flying.

GREAT........now I've got that song stuck in my head......................

have to write a grocery list, leave notes for kid pick-up, but I can still remember that song!!!!!!!

This was such a fun ride. I remember that my sister and I loved the "speed room". The song is insidiously catchy, but it brings back happy memories and I love it.

If you had wings, you could do many things
You could widen your world, if you had wings
Chorus: If you had wings, if you had wings, if you had wings, had wings, had wings, had wings, had wings
You could fly to a plaza, where the people play
At the Mexican fiesta, in the land of ole
Chorus
You could fly to Bermuda, like a flying fish
Have a ball on a cruise ship, or catch fish if you wish
Chorus
Wanna buy a sombrero, made of real fine straw?
How about a nice handbag, for pretty mama?
Chorus
You could follow a tradewind, down to Old San Juan
And explore an old fortress, before traveling on
Chorus
You could flitter and flutter, to the isle of springs
To that emerald green garden, and do wonderful things
Chorus
You could fly with flamingos, to that old French town
Go on regale New Orleans, wear the carnival crown
Chorus
You do have wings, you can do all these things,
You can widen your world, for you have wings

There's another reason why the song is still stuck in everyone's heads...apparently they had to play the song very loudly in the ride so you wouldn't hear the noise of all of the noisy projectors everywhere.

I wish I could ride it again, I barely remember it since I was only on it once, and I was probably only about 4 years old. I've seen the youtube and other videos, but still hard to get a real sense of how it all looked, since it is usually too dark in the videos

Our next door neighboor was a Eastern Pilot back in the day. That was how we got tix to the then MK and Epcot only at WDW.

Nice little perk he had there that he gracefully shared with his yard boy.

I was just thinking about this ride the other day. We went on it many times during my first trip to WDW in '82. I remember that speed room - my aunt would get scared and scream a little every time! :rotfl:

Where did he get the DVD? What's the title? It's sounds like something I would love!
