WDW Magazine?

Would love to hear what you and others make of Orlando Attractions magazine ?

Different stokes for different folks I guess.

I found it to be incredibly light - so little text and only fairly generic publicity-type photography. It just doesn't give any insight to how this stuff is put together. I've had the first 4 and didn't learn anything I didn't already know or could find out on the web somewhere.

But then I rarely venture outside the World when I'm there (haven't been to Universal since IoA opened) and always stay on property. I just don't need/want to read about I-Drive hotels and nightclubs etc.

I used to subscribe to E-Ticket magazine until it folded so I'm interested in Tales magazine more than any of the others. I'm just fascinated about how the attractions, shows and parades are put together and this one seems to have a lot of imagineer interviews and artwork that isn't available anywhere else.

I'm told my order should arrive Wednesday so I'm looking forward to seeing it!

I really enjoy it Reid. The current issue (no 5) came last week and is probably my favourite issue so far.

One of my favourite sections is a double page spread they do each issue called Work in progress, it shows what is under construction, completed or closing. In this issue it has a photo & small paragraph on the following, T-rex restaurant, the pathway from the contemporary to the new building, the area where Universals Rip Ride Rockit is going to be, Harry Potter site and more....

Some of the tips etc are things that I already knew (because of the DIS) but I have picked up the odd thing I never knew, for example I didn't know that most rides have a "chicken exit" so you can all queue up together and experience the themed queue but then exit without riding.

Other articles this month include a report on The Wave restaurant, Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress resort report, a letters page, a two page spread about Soarin, a report on Gatorland, a review of what to do in Orlando of a night.....lots more!

I hope this gives you a brief insight, I would definately recommend it to those who don't just go to Orlando for Disney as it contains lots of articles not relating to Disney. Hope this helps.

It shows the pathway to the new DVC units at the Contemporary? Doesn't seem very newsworthy to me. I guess I'm just used to seeing stuff like that on a daily basis at sites like wdwmagic.com and screamscape.com

Thanks I think I'll definitely look at this :thumbsup2

I subscribe to Orlando Attractions Magazine and intend to renew when it is up in a couple of months. Some issues are better than others of course. There was one particular issue that I was finished with almost immediately and quite frankly would not have bought from the newstand. The current issue looks more to my liking. It is the luck of the draw.

Must say the article on the Wave was very good and pretty detailed. Oh, and since I first posted in this I have gone and renewed my tales from the laughing place subscription. The Epcot issue was pretty darn good.

That's good Mikki - I quite like the look of the Tales magazine too.

That is how I felt about the first 4 (?). There was just so little information to make it interesting to me. I've yet to read an article in that mag that had information I could glean from other sources. I'm also not a fan of the design style to be honest - it looks amateurish.

We get the point - you don't like it.

I finally got my fifth issue of Attractions - they supposedly had sent out two copies before but I never got them. I've had shipping problems with them before. Anyhow it is definitely an improvement over the past two - I guess a lot is just trying to find their feet. I'll definitely be keeping it going for now and have just subscribed to that other new one that comes out this month.

I just got all of the back issues for Tales too - I think I was reading through them for about 5 hours on Saturday - I just couldn't put them down. The earlier issues (definitely Issues 2 and 3) aren't as detailed as the latter ones. Issue 3 has a lot about the Happiest Celebration on Earth back in '05 though which was good to read. However it is the last few issues that have been exceptional - the creation of EuroDisneyland with four of the five original imagineers, the construction of Epcot with Marty Sklar and Joe Rohde explaining about how Animal Kingdom was built. Fascinating stuff and a tonne of artwork. I think they are going to be concentrating on Tokyo for the next issue but I hope they continue to showcase WDW. I'd recommend this magazine to anyone. I also didn't realize how heavy it is - the paper is like book quality. Anyhow I found a decent review for it too:
