i'm still thinking about moving our Feb trip up a little and wondering how the world is right after New Year's. When do the crowds slow down? How is the weather? What about resort discounts? any info is greatly appreciated!

Florida weather is so weird that you can never tell, but it is usually chilly (not cold, but chilly) the begining of January. As for the park attendance right after New Years Eve the attendance drops dramatically all the way through Februrary. This year New Years Day is a Saturday so I would say as early as Monday January 3 you should see a considerable drop in park attendance. Don't know about resort discounts, but you can always ask...I know the cruise line starts their discounting that week, so resorts might have some good offers.

I've been in Epcot twice on January 2 (and will be again in 2005). Actually, the crowds are pretty much gone by then. I'll always remember a CM telling me that she thought by the way people party on NYE, that they blow all their money then and leave right away the next day! Obviously, the partiers didn't thrill her! The low season starts right on 1/1 for hotel rates. It's often been quite chilly when I've gone then, but you never know!

We went the first week in Jan. a few years ago. It was fairly chilly, but the crowds dropped off steadily every day after the 1st. It was a nice time to go.

I've been to WDW until Jan. 4 the past 2 years. As others have said, you should notice a dropoff in people right away on Jan. 1. And it seems to get a little better on the 2nd and 3rd. Next year should be very quiet by Jan. 3, because many will have gone home since schools will reopen that day.

The weather is iffy then. This year, we had drop-dead gorgeous weather all the way through our stay. We were in shorts every day, in and out of the pool, etc. It was wonderful. The previous year, it was sunny but cooler. We had jackets on fairly often, and some days weren't warm enough for shorts. So it is hard to know.

Whatever you decide, have a great time! :D
