Today I called CRO to try to get AP discounts and change around some reservations for a large family reunion we are having in November. Sure I was disappointed that I didn't get any discounts but when I asked to expand a reservation at the CBR by adding 11/10-13, I was told it was sold out. It made me remember calling CRO with a nervous stomach back in the old days worrying that I wouldn't be able to get my dates -- I didn't even know about discounts then. I thought about it a lot today, especially with the news starting to show that horrible footage of the towers again. Here we are, almost 2 years from 9/11, and WDW seems to be getting back on its feet. Things are somehow going back to the way they were before -- slowly, but our baby steps are moving us forward.
It just made me feel good and I just want to say that I am so grateful to be an American and I am grateful that I had a place that was so healing and made us laugh again after that horrible day. I am grateful to all of the Americans that kept us moving forward and to all our overseas guests that came to WDW even though it must have been a scary time to come here. I am grateful to all our servicemen and women and to the 9/11 survivors for their courage and strength. When I think again of what really matters and how to some people discounted room rates are the least of their worries -- well, all I can say is that I am glad there is a place like WDW to go to rack rates or not. I guess the griping over the discounts may be a good sign in some ways.
May God continue to bless America and all of its friends. Sorry to sound so sappy but I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Great post.We will be there this 9-11 and am kinda worried but i know i will be fine.

great post!

luvindisneyworld-try not to worry, just have a wonderful time!

It does seem like it's been a while since we had to call months in advance just to make sure we had a room! Oh, the "good ol' days!"

Totally sold out, or just sold out of AP rooms?

Naaaaaaa, you sound pretty good to me, and so true.

DMRick - I was told that there was no availability at all for those dates. We do have coverage at the BWI on those nights but wanted to move over to the CBR as my parents will be staying there. They aren't into those "fancy" resorts.

You might want to keep trying..another person got those dates, that resort tonight, with AAA rates.

I suspect, as people call and change their plans and cancel the old, rooms open up.

God bless and also, call back for those days. Today the cancellations should be recycled back into the system!

You might get those rooms just yet!

Hello everyone. I am new to this, but just had to register to thank franw for the powerful message and reminder of just what is important!

You're so right.
I'm proud to be an American too!
After 9/11, I didn't think I'd go to NYC again. I didn't think I would get on a plane again. I didn't think I'd go to crowded American "icon" type places. You can't live like that. If you do, they win.
I proudly stood on the top of the Empire State Building in Feb. of 2002 and watched the clean up at Ground Zero from the binoculars you put a quarter in. I flew to Disney for the first time since 9/11 in May of 2003. I can't wait to fly back in February. We have to keep plugging forward.

I also agree !! Great post !!! I work in downtown Manhattan, only a few blocks from the WTC site. It is still tough to go to work everyday, but we go on. We all do !! SOOOO glad to hear that people are travelling again, and doing what they love !!

Andrew

:D

What a wonderful post!! I think you summed up what a lot of people feel today!!

Thank you

Beautiful sentiment, franw, not sappy at all (and I know ::sappy::!) As much as I'd like an 'empty' park and no lines when we're there in October, a busy, healthy WDW with crowds of happy guests is indeed a good sign for the Mouse and the country.

And I too remember (looong ago) having to plan 6-8 months in advance to make sure you got a room, not just because we love to plan! ;)

Not sappy at all!!! Great post!!

It's actually kind of nice to see the rooms filling and attendace going up. I won't mind crowds, because I know what it means.

Divamomto3 - I plan to visit Ground Zero in 2004. I know of so many people who have taveled so far to pay their respects there and I feel drawn to do the same. I'm glad you got on that plane and did some healing at WDW, too. The nicest part of belonging to the Boards is that there is so much we all have in common here (not just our love of WDW but I think the things that draw us to WDW) and so many people reach out to each other and lend a hand. Kind of like an extended family.

Thanks for sharing and putting so many people's feelings into words. Its not sappy at all.
