WDW is filling up - God bless the USA

From a uk visitor perspective it's great that things are getting back to normal as people heal and lose the fear. We were very aware of the differences between our March 01 trip and April 02... but it was a lot happier this year. Keep smiling! See you at Christmas. Mike

Great post. We were in MK on 9/11, and it was devastating. When the real world barges in on "the happiest place on earth", it can take a long time to recover. We are just now at the point where we're ready to go back (we'll be there 9/15-22). I still remember sitting at the ice cream shop at the end of Main Street waiting for the crowds to thin out as we were being evacuated. There were a lot of New Yorkers sitting there too, all trying to get out on their cell phones to check on loved ones and unable to get a signal. No panicked people, no pushing, just everyone trying to help everyone else. Like franw said, people reaching out to each other.

With the second anniversary less than two weeks away I think it is important for all of us to reflect back on that day and remember ... remember those we had taken from us , secretaries , waiters , pilots , maintenance workers , investment bankers , police officers , and firefighters ... moms , dads , sons , daughters , wives , husbands , brothers , sisters , cousins and friends ... remember who and what is really important in our lives and why ... remember why we love this country so much and those who have and continue to sacrifice their lives for our freedom and security ! We must show the world and especially our children that we will not allow ourselves to be terrorized by any nation or group . The best way to do this is to continue living our lives the way we did before 9/11/01 in tribute to those who lost their lives that day .
So lets keep going to WDW and NYC and anywhere else we want to go because we cannot and will not live our lives in fear . Not now not ever !

GOD BLESS AMERICA !

This is a wonderful thread. Thank you for writing the original post that started it all. The comments that were added to it only made me even more proud to be an American.

God Bless America!

Captain America - Thank you for your eloquent post. I remember going to WDW a few weeks after 9/11 and our entire trip was saddened not only by the horrific losses we had suffered but by the absence of so many people who must have cancelled their plans (and I can certainly understand why they did so). But we were so heartened by the people who were there, especially so many people, entire families, wearing photos of lost heroes on the back of their shirts. I think there are millions of heroes in this country. Our brave first line of defense, certainly. But everyone of us struggling to get back life back to normal in their honor. I hope someday Disney finds a way to honor them as well with something at the American Pavilion or somewhere else as appropriate. Perhaps it is still to raw for most of us but I think the day will come.

Franw -Thanks for the reminder of whats really important. As a New Yorker who lost friends, loved ones on 9/11 its never far from our hearts & minds But I figure I owe it to those 3000 martyers to be the best person I can be, to live a life they would be proud of and stand up and say" I am an American." I will not let those ------ win. It reminds me of the saying FREEDOM ISN'T FREE.

GOD BLESS THE USA & OUR TROOPS.

Luvindisneyworld, we'll be there for 9/11, too. I haven't flown in over 20 years but our flight leaves next Sunday. At times I am a little nervous (especially the flying part!) but I can't live my life fearing what "might" happen. I'm glad we are going. I guess it's my small way of showing the world that we, Americans, are survivors and will continue on with our lives and not be afraid. GOD BLESS THE USA!
