We've surprised them before, but I am actually quite shocked that they haven't figured out yet that they are going to Disney in two weeks!

The last time we surprised the kids we put Disney luggage tags on a bag for each of them, and told them to pack - they saw that the luggage tags were from Disney :) They are a bit older now (15, 13, 11 and 2) and I need a new idea! How have you surprised your teens/tweens? If all else fails, we will tell them to pack up the night before. I hope someone has a better idea for me! Thanks. :thumbsup2

Gosh...that sounds like so much fun. Hmmm...what about a special Disney cake or something for dessert the night before you leave? You can say "Gosh Mickey rice krispy treats always taste so much better there" Wait for a response and say I guess we will have to get one tomorrow. :woohoo:

That's a good idea.. maybe I can find some of those mickey head ice cream bars or make a cake. I'm so excited! :woohoo:

I love the surprise the kids idea. We have tried and tried to do it, but we simply can't keep our mouths shut and the kids (13, 9 now) have been able to figure something out each time. We usually book in October and November for our April trips, and we have made it to Christmas once before telling them, but that is the best we could do!! haha Good luck and have fun!

We just took our kiddies on their first trip to DW this past Sept. They were 8 and 9. We had them packed the night before and sent them to school that day. We told them we were dismissing them for a chiropractic appointment. When we got them home, we said something like, "Instead of going to the Chiropractor, how about we do something fun." Of course they agreed. So, we said, "Okay, want to go to DISNEY!!!!". The initial response wasn't exactly what we thought it would be. I think they didn't believe it. But as the taxi showed up and we made our way to the airport, it all started to sink in. It was pretty fun. Now we are going again this sept. and they know about it. They are having lots of fun planning.:flower3:

Oh it's SO hard to keep from saying anything! I have to be careful about everything! Because our trip is in my thoughts constantly, I'm so afraid of slipping up and saying something. Even things like the boarding for our dog - I have to make sure that if the kennel calls that I pick up the phone! :) I like the idea of the special dessert - Maybe I can think of some kind of special dinner that night, too - then after our dessert we can all go pack up!

I still think that idea would be fun. What about icecream sundaes? Three (small) scoops shaped like mickey heads with mickey shaped sprinkles. You can probably get these from Michaels. We have a Mickey cookie cutter. You could do Mickey shaped burgers, etc.

We once told my granddaughter that we were going away for the weekend to see my nephew play football.....thankfully she slept part of the way so she never knew where we were going until she saw a Disney Bus --- it was SO FUNNY!!!:rotfl2:

I see your in Southwest Florida, if your driving why not tell them your taking them as a treat maybe for a trip to say Daytona that way your covered on why do you have to pack question. Load everyone into the car and when you get to the exit for Disney just turn off see how long it takes them to realize they aren't going to Daytona.

Then when your on Disney Property see if they can figure out where your staying based on what exits you take.

Have fun suprising them! My parents surprised me when i was 5 for my birthday, we are from CT and they told me we were going on a trip to Myrtle Beach, when we got to the turn off for Myrtle Beach they asked if wanted to go to the Beach or to see Mickey....It backfired I said the beach :lmao: i was 5 and i wanted to build a sandcastle! but they asked again if i wanted to See where Mickey lived and I wised up and said Mickey :D

Surprise trips are fun!

We did something like this about 5 years ago when we took a day trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa. We actually told the kids that they had doctor's appointments and that's why we took them out of school for the day - they got upset because they all thought they were going to get shots! Once we got on I-75 they realized we weren't going to the doctor. Something like that could work though, if we don't tell them the night before. We could tell them that they're staying with Grandma for a few days while DH and I go somewhere. Oooh.. so many ideas! Thanks!

We're going in June 2009 and have a big trip planned with 20 other people so it's been hard keeping it from my nosey 6 yr old DD and my other DD (age 3). Since my kids are the ages they are, we plan on just getting in the car and not telling them where we are going until we get there (if we can keep it a secret). My 6 year old has a funny concept of time and I don't want to be asked 9,000,000 times between now and then, are we going to Disney this weekend?

I'm in the same boat! We dont leave until November, but I have been racking my brain trying to figure out the best way to surprise them. I will checking this thread for answers! I'm just like you I have a hard time not bringing up the trip, there is so much to discuss!

Have a fun and safe trip!!!!!:wizard:

Wal-Mart sells Mickey shaped pizzas and the Mickey icecream bars. Just an idea for a special dinner.

When my aunt planned a surprise trip for my cousins, she told them they were planning a trip to Vegas and there was a layover in Orlando (we are from NY). They didn't realize they were going to Disney until they were there, they weren't disappointed to be missing a Vegas trip.

I agree with not telling them where they are going and start driving til they figure it out. In 02' we did this for my DS and it went great. He thought we were going to visit family in VA. We left at 10PM and around 3AM he woke up and saw a NC sign and asked us what was up. DH was on the ball and said that DH had let me drive and I got lost so we were back tracking. DS bought it and went back to sleep. At 7AM when DS woke up for real and saw the GA signs he actually asked it I had gotten them lost again. DH laughed and handed him the reservation confirmation page and DS was totally excited.
Even now at 17 DS talks about how much he loves getting suprised by us with the trips. He even told us to keep suprising him sometimes so this past Easter we added a few days to our trip and moved to CSR. It was funny to watch as we checked out of POFQ and DS sat frowning in the back of the car. We told him we could hit AK one last time that morning. As we passed CSR I asked DH to stop so I could get a shirt in the gift shop. DH dropped me off, I checked us in and went back to the car. DS was like, where's the shirt mom? I told him I changed my mind and instead we were checking in for a few more days. He was so excited.

I love these ideas! I would definitely do dinner/dessert the night before. Then they can help you pack! I can't imagine doing all the packing by myself LOL How exciting...I hope your suprise holds up :cool1:

It's getting hard to keep this from my DD6. She's a huge Disney nut like me and watches the Travel Channel specials and vacation planning DVD's with me.

We packed our DDs then 5 and 3 in the van in the middle of the night. When they stirred a bit we told them we just wanted to take the new van for a ride. When they woke in the morning, while still driving, we told them we were going to find a hotel to swim in the pool. We checked into the hotel in Georgia late that day and let them swim. In the morning we were packing back up for the last few hours drive and I handed them mickey ears and asked where they thought we should go wearing them. My oldest figured it out and started screaming that she was going to meet cinderella. My youngest was confused. Even after explaining it to her she was still confused. It didn't sink in until we got to Magic Kingdom!

We decided last month to go again...they are now 8 and 10. After researching online for a few days we finally booked it. When I told the girls, my oldest said no offense, but you didn't keep the secret so well this time.

I wasn't trying to be secretive I just wanted to make sure it was a done deal before I told them.

Silly girls!
