We are planning on going to Disney May 2008 and I have a couple questions.

Is there a better time in May to go (beginning or end of the month) ? How is the weather? Is it warm enough to go to the water parks?

Thanks for your advice!

More than warm enough for the water parks! We used to go in the middle of May and found the crowds to be low or either we just got lucky. It was 2 or 3 years ago and I don't remember waiting over 15-20 at the most for rides. Weather was great, not too hot. But then we went May of 2005 and it was a complete scorcher, crowds were still good though!!

We just always went the middle or towards the beginning, didn't want to catch the crowds from school being out. Ours get out early sometimes here in the South.

We have been the past 4 Mays. We always pull the kids out of school & go for about 8 or 9 nights.

The further you go into May, the more crowded it will be...but that ISN'T bad at all....we've gone as late as the 3rd week (never gone the 4th week) & it still is a WONDERFUL time to go. The past few years, we've been there over Mother's Day, & even on that day....crowds are not bad. (When we've gone the first week of May, we have literally "walked" onto rides. It's great!)

And yes....it is most definitely swim weather. It's always 80s & 90s when we're there.

we will be there may 2nd to the 11th so i hope the weather is excellent

I love May for going to WDW.

The earlier in the month you can go the better. Also I love LOVE Mother's Day at Disney World. They used to, haven't been there lately on this day, but used to give out carnations at the gate for all Mom's to wear. You will habitually be told Happy Mother's Day by CMs. They also have a luncheon:http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/mothersday.htm

May is just a good time, low precipitation; lower crowds; lower rates. Our next time we will be going in November. That is our other month! May or November. Sometimes we may throw in a January or September. But those months just stick out with planning as great months to tour in a more laid back fashion without the wait times and hustle bustle.

Hope you have a wonderful trip!:goodvibes

We went this past May - the 1-7 and it was HOT, HOT, HOT(definitely hot enough for water parks) and quite crowded. Not as hot and crowded as when we've gone in July but definitely more so than any of the members of our traveling party.
For example, a ride that would have had a 45min wait during the summer had about a 30min wait in May. Definitely better, but we had hoped to stay under 20min wait since we were taking DS for the first time. The only other BIG difference we noticed about going in May vs July was that it seemed as though nearly every ride got stalled while we were on it in May. Maybe it was just our luck? I don't know but we got stuck in several areas while riding Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, Spaceship Earth, Finding Nemo, and several others. The only ride we ever had gotten stalled on in previous trips to WDW in July was Spaceship Earth - I think it happens alot on that ride.

Much of that "stalling" is when the ride is stopped to allow handicapped guests to board or disembark. You may have noticed this more in May because I think that a lot of handicapped guests choose to travel in the "off" times (maybe because it's easier to manuever the ECVs & wheelchairs then).

I was there in May for 9 days with a group of 8 family members, 3 of which were riding ECVs during our trip.

Thank you all for your reassurance. I appreciate all the information I can get. I can't wait to take my 3 yr old son to Walt Disney World.:cool1:

May is wonderful! We went this past May. The week leading up to Mother's Day. Weather is fantastic. Mid-80s everyday. It only rained twice for 15 minutes (although it came down in buckets when it did rain). We spent two full days at the pool, so yes the water parks would be great.

MK and MGM were empty. Little wait time on the rides. Epcot was very crowded due to the flower show (which is beautiful). Make sure you bring your child to the butteryfly tent! My little ones loved the butterflies and even looking at all the flowers. There is also two cute playgrounds set up in Epcot for the flower show. AK is also very crowded. I don't know why. But we went twice (a Monday and a Thursday) and both days the place was packed. Our friends went the week before and said the same thing about the crowds. Try to take advantage of extra moring hours and fastpass.

We went in May this year (5/25-6/3). We loved it! Except for a short visit from TS Barry one day, the weather was great. It was warm, but not HOT. The crowds were not bad at all, and we were there Memorial Day weekend. We are going on our first cruise the same time next May and plan to spend a few days at the park either before or after the cruise. December is our favorite time to go, but May is a close 2nd.

On the WDW website I clicked on the calendar where it shows the best time to go for crowd levels and it shows that all of May is higher crowds.

Now, I have been in May, but it has been years. DH just told me he wants to go this next May, but I need to know:

Is the website just not completely accurate?

Thanks,

Dawn

My experience is the earlier in May you go the better. Late May can get hectic the closer you get to Memorial Day.

The 1st week of May is my very favorite time to be in WDW. (Jan or March is my favorite time to not be in MI and go to FLA instead, but that is different.)

May is great weather, sunny and warm. The crowds are low, the events are good. We love F&G festive in Epcot. Even airfare and care rentals have been low during that time in the past. DVC rates are pretty good too.

We are going the 1st week of May this year. I don't know how I am going to manage not going before then (and staying in MI all winter.)

We are really looking forward too it. Great time of year. Just don't tell too many people, I don't want the secret to get out. :rolleyes1

We've been in May 2x....both times over Mother's Day week. It's our very favorite time to go! Our last May trip was this past May (and they still give out carnations at Epcot on Mother's Day!)

We've found that the crowds are low, and the weather is beautiful!

Enjoy!!

I was there LATE may early june last year and I didn't think it was that crowded (okay gay day's at MK was but it wasn't terrible!) I think the longest ride we waited in line for was dumbo :confused3 We also were blessed with TS Barry who moved thru one day  bring on the rain! It was DEAD that day it was great, and the thing is it didn't really rain. I'm thinking about going the same time next year or October.. We'll save at least 1k by going in may than oct.. our little guy turns 3 in June.. so he's free til then! :yay:

And I think some schools are getting out in the middle of May this year.

We are thinking of going the last week of April/first week of May.

We have gone in beginning of May the last two years and they do seem to get busier but still are managable. This was the first year we did the water parks and we will for sure be going back. My son was 2 1/2 when we went and the kids area is wonderful. The wait times weren't bad and I think Dumbo was the longest at about an hour. This time we are going in January so that will be a new experience for us.
