WDW in August

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

ITA, Florida rain can be intense.

We are actually doing our first August trip this year. Kids getting older... already pulling them out a few other times...

I am worried about crowds (we usually do Sept). Especially after what people posted last year as a result of free dining. Then again, we visit so often that we really don't spend alot of time in the parks anyway. I just don't want to have to fight for a chair poolside. I will be very happy if they leave the free DDP to the UKers & bounceback people! (Yeah, I know, don't count on it!)

Deam MinnieGirl,
As long as there are 4 beach chairs and Minnie bars and choc chip sandwiches to keep the kids happy, it is better than NJ. We will have to get the chairs earlier that is all:banana:

We always do the last week in August and we love it. Yes it is obscenely hot but I can tolerate the heat more than I can crowds. Usually the last week in August it is considerably less crowded. Also the parks are still open 'til 9:00-10:00 pm, that gives us plenty of time to come back to our resort during the heat of the day, swim, chill out, etc and then head back to another park after dinner.

True, true.

Life is good. :beach:

Let's just not for get about the adults! :drinking1

Some form or other of my family was there for the last two weeks of August last year , the last week was better crowd wise!

There was a load of good advice from other posters.

OHH Aug is TERRIBLE stay away the lines are like 3 hours long its like 100 degrees and they always run out of water*

*< because I find more and more people going to WDW I'm trying to cut down on crowds the times I go <G> >

DH and I went down last August (first week) by ourselves for our anniversary- 3 nights at WDW/OKW without the kids? Were we nuts? No, it was AWESOME!!!! After dispensing with the guilt we felt (took about 5 minutes and 1 pina colada at the pool) we had a fantastic time!

1. NO LINES, Florida kids went back to school that week and we walked on everything, we've never done that before in any of our trips during October, March and April.
2. Weather was cooler during our time there than home in sweltering NY, plus who cares how hot it is, just go in the pool. Thundershowers everyday mid afternoon for about 15 minutes, then sun again.
3. Cheap airfare
4. Lower points/cash nights

It was terrible.:rolleyes1

We decided to take everyone this coming August for 8 nights, no "school stress" for the kids or parents.

We can't wait.

We will be at BWV the third week (DS doesn't like to be on vacation the week before school starts). We used to be November or April, but the kids missed soooo much schoolwork on our cruise last spring we feel forced to go when they are off from school.

So we'll be there with our shorts, tank tops, swim suits, and water bottles! Great tips! Oh, and also our rain ponchos from our very first (before kids) trip in September! Counting on needing two more ponchos this time!

I now have hope!:goodvibes My youngest DD and I both have B-days in august (hers on the 16th, mine 1 week later on the 23rd). I thought it would be to awful to go for our B-days but with a good strategy it looks very do-able.

We were there end of Aug 06 and will be back same time this year. We loved it! There were lines at the parks but they were not prohibitive. Careful use of FP permitted us to do everything we wanted to and more. The resort and buses were not crowded.

One key suggestion I have not seen here yet is: Use a mister fan!! We had one we bought cheaply at home and used it quite liberally. We sprayed people near us as well (at their request!). Disney sells them, of course, and they were on sale for, I think, 2 for $16.95. But you don't really need 2. We had 1 and just sprayed each other and refilled.
