My check engine light came on as
I approached check-in the other day.
This morning I drove to the car care
center, to be told that my van computor
showed repeated 301s, that's low fuel
pressure.

But, it's hard to feel down while at the Fort.
There are much worse places to be broken
down.

Anntenea Topper 4.95
Mickey Golf Shirt 39.95
WDW Fuel Pump
(with labor) 768.00

Relaxing at Fort Wilderness, still priceless!

Good attitude, only way to deal with it. :cool1: And I bet you are happy you didn't get stuck halfway there.

The next time check engine lite come on (if there is a next time) try some of the service centers out side of the Kingdom you find thay are for the most part cheaper. Also this all depends if the car can get to a service dealer ship under it's own power safely. Have fun at WDW. K.:santa:

wait, it seems like I've heard that some where before,,does that sound familiar to you too ?

Lets go fishing ! :thumbsup2

I bet your problem is a loose gas cap. My check engine light comes on several times year. The most recent time was this past weekend when the temperature dropped. Fill the tank, tighten down the gas cap, and the light should go off within the day or two. It took mine about 50 miles this time. If is still doesn't go off, try a new gas cap. Less than $10 at Autozone.

I found the car care center price to be reasonable. Parts cost
about the same as I would have paid off the Internet, labor was
a little more then back home. They finnished sooner then expected,
within $15 of the estimate, and dropped me off/picked me up at the
TTC. Plus, 12 month/12,000 mile warranty.

So, Van is back and running fine.
I'll drive home on Saturday, worry free.

what happened to the good old days. fuel pump about 20 bucks. remove fuel line. two bolts to remove. Install new gasket and re install the two bolts. re attach the fuel line and you were good to go in about 20 minutes max. Now fuel pump in 100 bucks and you have to drop the gas tank just to get at it. i like technology but boy the old days sure had some advantages.

it's them dang 'puters.....

Fuel pumps are now IN the gas tank. That's why you don't want to go below a 1/4 tank. The gas cools off the fuel pump.

A DTC 0301 is a mis-fire on cylinder #1
Usually a mis-frie code is caused by a bad spark plug, plug wire, or an injector not working properly

It could be caused by a fuel pump but not likely. Low fuel presure will give a maulti-misfire code or an ox sensor lean code. If your van has a fuel presure sensor (most do not) it would give you a DTC of 0087 or 0088

I would suggest that you drive the van around some in WDW and on the Interstate just to make sure it is fixed.

I agree. The last thing a good mechanic should be doing is replacing parts only due to a trouble code.

The fuel pressure is easy enough to check with a guage by hooking it to the fuel rail. Hopefully, he did that.

Any of the misfire codes in the low 300's would more than likely be electrical, vacuum or injector related, but not fuel pump.

Couldn't a clogged fuel filter cause a low pressure reading if taken at the rail?

IIRC GM tech manual says to disconnect the line into the filter and check the pressure there, although I see the value of checking it at the fuel rail first.

I really don't think it would change much. With a clogged fuel filter, you'd still have pressure, just lower flow rate.

EDIT: (Honestly, the more I thought about that, the more wrong it sounded. It seems logical that you would lose pressure beyond any blockage in the line.)

We had problems with our motorhome on the way down and back. The alternator stopped working about 4 hours from Disney, but my husband used jumpers to connect the running battery to the coach batteries. Like you said, you can't get really down when at Disney.
When we went to leave, we filled up with gas at the Car Care Center and went about 1 mile and I heard a bing. Well, the metal bands that wrap the radiator broke and punched a hole in the radiator. We managed to get it sealed, but had to spend an extra 3 days at the Fort. I can't complain about the extra 3 days at Disney.
So alls well that ends well. We made the 1000 mile trip home and will replace the radiator before the next trip.
Our motorhome is the yellow and white one with steamboat willie on it, in case you were there.
Also, we had to rent a car from Alamo at the Car Care Center. They were the nicest most helpful people you could ask for. They made the best of a bad situation.
So, hope everyone makes their trip to The Fort and back safely.:earsboy::earsboy:
